Diezel VH4 + Marshall Plexi: TOOL - Adam Jones Tone

I didn't specifically buy these amps to recreate Adam's tone, I just really like both of them seperately. But since I have them I thought it would be cool to try them together and see how they sound, and of course how close they are together to Adam's tone!

Gear:
Diezel VH4
Marshall 1959SLP - master volume about 60%
Heritage H-157 - Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates
Paul C Timmy V2 - slight volume boost to simulate a higher output pickup
Boss BF-2
Line6 HX Stomp - delay and to split signal to both amps
Dunlop 535Q
Suhr Reactive Load - Marshall
Fryette Power Station - VH4
Ownhammer MRCB H75 02 SM57 IR - Marshall
Ownhammer HH1 Mesa V30 02 SM57 IR - VH4
Waves R-Verb - slight room verb
bx SSL 9000J - slight post EQ

Amp settings as displayed on screen. Diezel panned 50% left, Marshall panned 50% right

0:00 Pushit (Live)
2:01 7empest
3:52 Lateralus
4:41 Part of Me
5:00 Schism
6:25 Culling Voices
8:36 Prison Sex

Sounds great. Id say for the higher gain stuff you're 90-95% there. Seems like maybe it needs some more push, slightly hotter pickups, or a clean boost etc but it definitely sounds nice!

Bud. Those big open D chords and the individual notation on 7empest is SO spot on to the album tone and his live tone. It's got that mid "snarl" along with that sag. Is the diesel modded in nay way? Hadn't read the description

*Instead of selling the VH4, you should have bought EQ pedals for the front and the effects loop. Sculpt to your heart’s content to bring out the highs.*

Loved this demo. I'm a huge Ownhammer IR collector btw. But can't seem to find this MRCB H75 Mix IR. I think J.Symmons mostly captured the H75 speakers with the orange cabs and some of the Pre-rola H75 labelled as G12-H30s within MRCB packs. Can you point me out?

Super interesting. Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t Adam use a Marshall bass amp, a dual Rec, and the VH4? A lot of people have told me his high gain crunch is mostly the Diezel. The amp I can’t afford haha. Great tone brother. I use a bogner shiva with a rat or a klon klone and it’s far from perfect but it’s a nice enough sound by itself to be fun. The bogner has a ton of low mids. Was impressed by your clean sound for Lateralus. I think his tones on undertow are a lot more easily achievable than Lateralus. Plus, we have to keep in mind that studio tones are not live tones. They aren’t just micing the cab, there’s a lot of eq and compression being added after recording. My opinion is that if you really learn the part perfectly, not just learn it, be able to play it in your sleep, if you can even get close to the sound in a live band setting you are going to be just fine. If you can’t play it through a Crate amp correctly a Diezel will not help you.

Seymour duncan sh6/ distortion pickups would bring it entirely there. As thats what Adam is using in his Les Paul.

Sounds good, but the delay is not right on Lateralus...too fast!

You have to plug in the Marshall in order to produce sounds from it. Just a tip.
