Lily Tomlin nailed this scene without saying a word. She should have had the Oscar.

My fave scene in Nashville. Lily Tomlin’s character is sat all the way back, but the song is for her. The moment the lovestruck girls realise he’s singing to a particular person is just gold. The scene, which is so quiet and emotional, hinges on nothing much more than the song and the gaze and the viewer knowing Lily Tomlin’s character’s story. Wow.

One of this black Detroit 60's chick's most favorite songs so beautiful and deserving of it's Oscar win! Loved how he was singing to Lilly Tomlin's character the older woman he loved instead of those young groupies and when he looked at her. He was so handsome as all the men of the 50s, 60s and 70s were and still are! Loved the movie also. Love the handsome Carridine men especially Keith!

Ah rock n roll. Is that what this song is? This is one of those 70's ballads that just tears it up. Rock/country/folk hybrid. Just a guitar and Keith Carradine's vulnerable voice. The breadth of this music called "rock" is so amazing. It can be so hard and so soft and still be great.

One of Many classic scenes from the Greatest Movie I have seen
Singing as every woman he has slept with thinking the song is about them, and slowly they realize it's not and that slow hand gesture from Lily Tomlin, who understands that it's about her .... unforgettable

My parents watched this movie a half dozen times on Star Channel in (I think) 1977. They bought the soundtrack and played that record. A lot. Lol it's actually really good music.

By virtue of its restraint, this scene was devastatingly hot.

IMHO the best musical scene of a film loaded with the best of musical scenes. Unfortunately this movie clip does not show the key resolution moment when Lily Tomlin has left the room. She has taken her decision choosing her family above the seductive but floozy star.

Wonderfull song. As an European - where we often do not meet all good music because of the gatekeeping systems - this is my first moment with this song. Absolutely astonishing scene.

Love this scene. Is one the most creative scenes to show a seductive guy. Just the reverse of James Bond, the big cliché.

Why do MovieClips' clips always cut off the last few seconds? Annoying.

The actor hired to play a country singer wrote a classic song and became a country singer.
