Just don't break it and you'll be fine.

Big thanks to Digital Foundry for use of their footage:

The console price isnt the issue. The problem is with the games...

I expected Nintendo to do 1440p 60fps/1080p 60fps portable for $399 before the reveal.

4K 60fps/1080p 120fps WITH HDR is more than worth $50 more.

For a handheld, its powerful for the price. The problem is the pricing of games and how Nintendo doesnt lower first party titles rarely if not ever. Even eshop sales are still almost full price.

I don't really think it's a bad price but I do think that variable Nintendo game prices is the problem here.

Thank you for putting the price into perspective. It IS great value for money ... While being quite expensive.

The Switch 2 price isn't THAT bad really. My problem is Nintendo starting to charge $80 for games.

Wow. The arms music is so nostalgic for me (already)! I remember playing the “arms test punch” at one of my buddies houses right after I got out of highschool when the switch was absolutely mind blowing. That music brought me back to those times! I still hangout with that buddy all the time it’s just wild to see how far we’ve come in what feels like the blink of an eye

As someone who owned only a Nintendo switch as their main console up until last year, I got to say that the power is such a big thing for me especially for the sake of the ports.

There are many ports on the switch 1 which are fantastic but they all came so much later and sort of lost their significance because of it.

Nier automata was an excellent port but came so much later due to a bespoke porting team and port job being required. The fact that Cyberpunk was developed for the switch 2 in ONLY 7 WEEKS and looks this good without a specific team makes me incredibly excited for the future

Thank you for making a video not going on about the price, so much talk around the switch 2 is price and its been done to death. Talking about the actual hardware is much more interesting

Thing is, I don't have an issue with the price of the console itself, I expected it to be around that. It's just the $80 price of some of the games that I don't like. Also, they're charging you for a tech demo...

Admittedly, portability is important to me and this is exciting. You would not believe the looks you get at the airport when you reach into your personal item, whip out your PS5, plug in a TV, and start playing Spider-Man 2 at full volume. This seems much more convenient. And of course not having to deal with the trouble of fitting a 60” television in a carry-on bag or the rigamarole of getting that through security…I’m in on the Switch 2.

Look, I still want an OLED, I wish it were an OLED, but I’m still going to get this.

Don't forget Cyberpunk 2077's build on Switch 2 was only 7 weeks old... and was not even running DLSS, and achieved 1080p at 30fps docked in performance, of 40fps in performance mode

EDIT: the comments here have been great feedback, I was making some strong assumptions based on architecture. Having done a little more research it should be closer to a 3050 laptop chip, but I would assume the actual performance would be much higher given the ARM SOC design and access to much more unified memory. Sorry I’m tech stupid. Still holds true - to get the feature set that the Switch 2 provides, you’d still need to jump for a $200+ GPU in a desktop.

Original comment:
To put it into perspective, the Switch 2’s performance looks to be somewhere between an nVidia RTX 3050 and 3060, both of which use the same Ampere architecture used by the Switch 2. Right now, if you can find an RTX 3060 in stock, it’s over $300. I can’t build a PC as powerful as the Switch 2 with a 120hz 1080p VRR display and all the peripherals for less than about $800, at least not without used components. $450 for a Switch 2 is a relative bargain compared to the PC gaming space, even accounting for game prices, unless you were planning to buy dozens of new titles very early on.

Valve seeing the switch 2 being more powerful and cheaper than the steam deck: 😰
Games are $70-$80: 😴

Thank you for putting the ARMS theme in the background. That game really deserves a sequel...

Finally a reasonable take. Yeah it costs more than switch 1 but youre getting a lot more. If the switch 1 came out today it would probably be close to 400 with current day inflation

$450 you get a more powerful console than most handhelds, 1/2 as thin as the smallest handhelds, better battery life than every handheld, better refresh rate and resolution than most handhelds, mouse mode build into the removable controllers which is only found in 1 handheld console.

You get native running first party nintendo games, full backwards compatibility, and for $40 a YEAR, you can get NSOnline with expansion. That is 1/5 the price of Sonys subacription and 1/3 the price of Xboxes.
All of that for essentially the price of a Ps4 on launch day.

If you cant afford it or its games, it is not a necessity. We sound like the biggest babies when it comes to first world problems. You have a Switch 1 OLED probably, play that for a while longer while you save up some money. If you canr afford $80 games, you most likely couldnt afford $60 or $70 games either. $10 is the price of a starbucks drink or a burger. You can make that easily if you just save or wait a week or 2.

This is the best deal we have seen in the modern era of games which by they way, are only getting more expensive to make😊

I am shocked people find the Switch 2 expensive. $450 is a fair price considering what it offers. People wanted Nintendo to make a more powerful console for a long time and now that they have people don't want to pay a fair price for it. More power, more cost. I am curious to know, what price did they wanted to pay for a next-gen Switch? Keeping in mind the regular Switch is $300 while the Switch OLED is $350. For a vastly more capable and powerful machine, $450 is not crazy at all.

10:47 😊 thank you for bringing some sanity into this absolute insanity, part of the problem is just the internet in general, the internet in general is a very negative place, they switch to is going to do great, and I also feel like the switch one still probably has a four or five year lifespan as well. I think they're going to bring a lot of new games to both.

For Steam Deck and other portable PCs you kinda have to keep in mind that games aren’t really made specifically to be run on those devices yet can still play them, while the opposite is true for the Switch 2: games that get ported are ported with its hardware in mind.
