An analysis on why Bane from Arkham Origins might just be the best adaptation of the character we've ever gotten, or is, at least, my favorite version of Bane.

Bane's theme from Arkham Origins:

This video was super helpful for getting an idea of other adaptations of Bane I was less familiar with, as well as for acquiring footage for this video.:

A few notes for this video (will make the most sense if read after watching the video):

If you like any of the versions of Bane that I consider to be bad or underwhelming, that's totally cool and would love to hear what you love about them. Different adaptations appeal to different people and it'd be awesome to here other people's perspective.

When talking about Thanos and Doomsday, I made a mistake by implying that Thanos was created to beat the heroes, when we was an established character well before his infinity gauntlet story. For the case of Thanos, I should have referred to that story as what he's known for and what makes him famous, which is also the case for Bane and Doomsday.

The reason most of the adaptations for Bane are underwhelming is due to the fact that he isn't there long enough to make a lasting impact. There are also plenty of examples where the adaptions make him dumb or ineffective, but not all versions are necessarily bad.

In terms of Bane and Doomsday, I'm not saying that these characters aren't written well, I'm saying that it's harder to write them when their first major appearance has them winning against the hero. Especially for the case of Doomsday, it feels like oftentimes writers resort to making them just like all of the other super powerful villains instead of unique characters in their own right.

This is my first analysis video, and I'm still figuring things out, so feedback is 100% appreciated!

If there's any version of Bane that is your favorite or that you think is underrated, feel free to mention that in the comments.

Yeah finally thank you bro. This version of Bane was the closest to the canon. I mean he wasn't just stupid brute but he was also intelligent. Hell he discovered Batman's secret identity. When he said "I'm in your house Bruce" I was like OMG 😱. He is the force to be reckoned with. He almost killed Alfred. He was like the Green Goblin, "a cunning warrior strikes his opponent's heart". Well in the comics he snapped his neck 😢

In Lego Batman 1, in one of the villains story missions, Bane is arm wrestling Killer Croc while reading. I thought that was pretty cool

I’m sick of most adaptations ( not all ) of Bane showing his mouth. I feel like the full mask is one of the few aspects that makes him more intimidating.

I think Bane deserves his own solo movie like Venom or Joker, where he is the main character. The core of the story will be the Vengeance of Bane and the Knightfall. I do remember there was one comic which were parallels with Bruce, panels showing their loss, their, childhood, training, education, etc. And in the end his ultimate master plan and victory over Batman. Also very interesting detail about Batman and Bane. They symbolize fear as the bat, Bruce ended up becoming the bat and embracing his fear, Batman, and Bane also had visions of the bat while he was traveling in his mind during meditation and he killed the bat, he defeated his fear

The one of the (several) scenes that stood out to me in this game was when Joker had all his hired assassins in the room, just before Batman enters Black Mask's highrise. He immediately demonstrated that he was a whole league ahead of everyone Batman had encountered that night, culminating in his ruthless dispatching of Electrocutioner to get the point across. Even though they tried not to show it, everyone in the room, trained assassins and supervillains in their own right, were scared of him, and it didn't take much else to get them going. All except for Bane. He didn't back down from Joker, bend the knee figuratively or otherwise, and immediately made it clear that he was no one's hired attack dog. It was his show at that point (or at least partly), and of the remaining hitmen who'd defined the game's story up to that point, Bane showed that he alone could stand in the same room with the likes of the Joker, and that of anyone else Batman would face that night, these two were the greatest threat by a country mile.

In the end it was essentially just foreshadowing the game's final act, but the scene was very well done and it's stuck with me for… damn, has it been almost ten years?

Man I've been saying this for ages, he was not only the best adaption but a great villain in general. He was both psychologically and physically imposing, something that you see rarely in most villains

Does anyone else remember how Killer Croc was originally like the pre-Bane before he got dumb? I really think that's one of the reasons why he and Bane often fight each other

Arkham Origins felt like the perfect introduction to the Arkham series. It's sorta just Arkham Batman in his simplest, with a unique, interesting story, and entertaining villains and plot. Plus the gift of the Online mode? Shows how passionate WB Montreal was when working on the game. Still bewilders me how so many people disliked it.

Bane in the Dark Knight Rises feels more like a character inspired by Bane (for me at least) then Bane from the comics

one of my favorite aspects of origins bane is oddly enough the music that plays during the fight. it's so intimidating and powerful. it really fit the character and the situation at hand.

I also love that Bane is Latino. I think it's really cool that Batman's mentally and physically most formidable villain is Latino. I really hope that aspect of the character is finally included in live action in the new DC movies.

If you like those versions of Bane you'll absolutely adore the one from season 2 of the Telltale games. They struck a fantastic balance by making him intelligent and battle-hungry, but also prideful and having his own twisted code of honor.

Also they way they portrayed Bane in this game blends well into who bane is in the rest of the Arkham games. Shows why he is the way he is later on

Him: What do Bane, Doomsday, and Thanos have in common?
Me: They have shoulders the size of semi trucks.

The final fight with Bane in Arkham origins is one of the only moments in my gaming life that nearly stopped my heart. I was so terrified that I almost stopped the game in middle and thought about not playing it.

Telltale batman's bane is a close second to best bane. He's smart, strong, and has a lot of character personality

3:11. Totally agree, bane is meant to not just push Batman physically but also mentally, he’s like his mental equal, both are equally smart making it more difficult for Batman to win, reducing him to a brute ruins him as a character
