Think about the debt ceiling argument like this. Your a family and your 18 year old child has maxed out his credit card and is begging for you to raise the limit. But does not want to change or in fact doesn't even want to negotiate about his spending habits. Would you raise the limit or let him feel the pain of not having the money to just blow on going out and buying anything he wants.
