song used: Deus Ex OST - Enemy Within (Combat)

full disclosure about the clips in this video, these are all very much 'best case scenario' combos done with save states, because this game has a major enemy despawning issue where you can easily combo heartless out of their very limited spawn radius in this game, and my stats here are manipulated to be a bit lower than what you'd typically have in the postgame (these are the 100 avatar floor sectors, also known as re:coded's secret bloody palace mode)

I went into this game blind thinking it would be sorta on par with BBS

I was so incredibly happy to be proven wrong.

Ironically the only “spin-off” that can be called a spin-off is also the only game that pulled off the command deck style that half the “spin-offs” use.

Re:coded's only flaw gameplay wise is that you cannot use it's combat for half its bosses.

Between KH: Recoded and NEO TWEWY, h.a.n.d knows what the fuck is up when it comes to crafting combat systems with highly customizable and synergetic mechanics that allow you to craft insane amounts of fun combos as well as give you the tools necessary to blow past encounters.
Even though Days isn’t as combo-heavy as the other two, it also has its fair share of interesting systems such as each Magic spell in the game having its own unique effect. Fire is a good early game projectile and remains useful for having decent tracking, Blizzaga summons a mine that’s a guaranteed freeze on contact (which is great to have considering how freeze actually increases the damage of your attacks), Fira pierces through enemies for multi-kills, Thunder absolutely shreds enemy/boss health bars, especially when using it near walls since it stacks up for a ton more damage, Aeroga draws in enemies for a lot of burst damage, making it great for crowd control, Thundaga does amazing burst damage on a single, focused target, and more. These all hit elemental weaknesses too so they remain pretty useful throughout the game.

Let it be known, whenever Sora is doing peak gameplay and the fights are at their most hype and mechanically intense… it’s always Data Sora putting in the work.

re:coded has wonderful gameplay and deserves more love! It's a crime not to include it in its entirety in the collection.

Recoded and days are surprisingly good and deserved an adaptation

This game proves the command deck system can work amazingly and its an actual crime that after this they went back to a more BBS like command deck for DDD

they need to let h.a.n.d out of their cage more often bc those guys know fun and snappy combat (play NEO TWEWY btw)

The lack of delay between abilities, the fact that you can immediately continue your combos, and the beauty of a well done speed keyblade combo, such fantastic combat in an otherwise divisive game

i will never shut up about re:Coded and Days not being remade properly and how it's the biggest grift the collection pulled on us

Even though both games released on the DS, the jump in combat options from 356/2 days to Re:Coded is still so crazy to me

Why is it so much better than all of the handheld games?

Re:Coded Command Deck combat honestly feels a lot more snappy and responsive compared to BBS or DDD. The other two have a weighty and clunky feel that doesn't suit the system.

Dude, thank you SO MUCH for making this! I've been looking for a video that I could show to people as an example of just how good Re:Coded's combat is for so long, and you delivered on that in spades! Those two combos on the Fat Bandits in particular were absolutely beautiful!

h.a.n.d. developing the best command deck system this series has ever seen but then having to relegate half the game to minigames that *don't use* said system has always felt like a crime to me. But what feels like *even more* of a crime is knowing that we will never get an official remaster of this game *or* a new game that fully utilizes its sublime combat. 😔

What I think makes Re:coded a step above all the other command deck style games is the fact that if you don't want to you don't have to interact with the command deck at all.

Some fights later on will be a lot harder without it but you never feel like if you don't use deck commands you'll be at a disadvantage, the basic three hit combo in this game is just that good.
