I love watching people’s art bags when they go out and I have to say this is one of my favourite videos. Your voice is so soothing as well!

A bum bag for this purpose is a great idea! Safe and sound, and easy to reach.

Hi Jaclyn
I enjoyed your vide very much, thank you! I had an idea about the water issue: How about cutting a hole into the upper left hand corner of the board, measuring the diameter of the collapsible cup about 1 cm before it is at its largest before the top? That way you could unfold your cup, slip it into the hole and fill in the water. And the container would safely stay in place 😊

I have a dropper also in my kit, it helps me refill my water brush without spillage. Additionally i keep a small container with salt for creating textures in landscape and cityscape paintings.
Also a white gym wristband to clean and dry brushes (also clothes that i am wearing mostly serve the purpose), i keep few q-tips to lift colors and a small broken plastic scale for perspective drawings

you can use your kneaded eraser under the contact case like ticky tac to stick it to your board!

Finally - a use for lens caps :P I put my acrylic paints in them when I went travelling but took too many and the less-used ones dried into plastic :( But they would work very well for watercolours and gouache.

Great video! I think 2 neodymium magnets: one taped to your work board and one dropped in the bottom of the cup would work too secure the cup to the board.

Oh my goodness, I have so many old contact cases. I love the idea to use them for water 😮🙌

You have enough room on your Plein Air board for small Double Stainless Steel Dipper Container Cup Pots Water Paint Palette Clip - with Lid. I got mine from Amazon. I made up a very similar art board as you made and I have enough room for my paint palette, water pots with lids with a clip and room for a small journal or paper. Also, I do have the Swedish clothes that you mentioned, but another hack that I learnt from someone else on YouTube, is to purchase cheap Terry cloth sweat wrist bands, put on on your non-dormant wrist, and use this to wipe your brush on instead of a cloth. This gives you more room on your board and is easy to use. I use black ones so you can’t see the paint marks. When you get to your room, or home you can wash them clean and they dry quickly for your next Plein Air experience….This was a great video, well done 👍🏼 can’t wait to see your videos of painting on your holiday. Hope you have a great time. 😊🤗🇨🇦

Love it! I like keeping it minimal too. I agree with everything, especially cut paper instead of heavy journals/pads. I usually take my watercolor pencils since I don't have a tiny palette yet.

Loved the video, and also how you hanged your paint tubes in the background, that's such a good idea, I think I'm gonna do the same, heh! ♥

Just watched your video and like the idea of using the correlated plastic to clip your pallet to. I prefer painting in the travel journals but occasionally paint on paper cut to small size. I most often carry my water in a urine specimen bottle, believe it or not. Never leaks! Also, rather than paper towels, I have an old facecloth that I cut in half. It is rather colourful now with paint as I have used it for several years. Interesting what you can find if you need to scratch into the surface to create grasses or whatever. When in South Africa, I found a porcupine quill and it is still a treasure. Our kit is very similar. Enjoy your upcoming and future painting adventures!

Jaclyn we have very similar tastes and setups I love your choices presentation and explanations one thing I’d like to share with you is that I have 1” square clips with a magnet on the back that I clip to my coroplast board and my art toolkit palettes stick onto it the other thing is that they have a flat clip and don’t mark the paper like the bulldog clips
Also I don’t open my sea to sky cup all the way one click from the last one gives me a bigger more stable bottom, plus I also use one ounce Nalgene wide mouth bottle that I can hold in my left hand between thumb and forefinger and still hold my coroplast palette set up and carry my water out with me oh btw I also absolutely love my Princeton Neptune travel brushes 6 & 8 we are kindred spirits even if I am 77 happy painting oh PS Daniel Smith paints don’t need misting one swipe with a wet brush picks up tons of pigment and does wear even my finest Kolinsky brushes out 💖🥰💖

I just found your channel and I loved it. I'm your northern neighbour and we have lots of beautiful areas to get out into and sketch. I'm just getting into the Plein air sketching and have the Art Toolkit and pocket/folio palettes. I'm trying to determine what equipment I can get away with and I love the idea of the Coroplast board and I see in the comments about the magnets, which would work and the hole for the water. Great ideas. Look forward to more of your videos. thank you

Your ideas for different colours in your palette are correct. All my brights are in a set I reserve for ‘flower painting’. Thanks for the video. I am at present putting together a minimalist set for autumn. Jo in France 🇫🇷

Excellent set up, I like using those type of bags too. It's a way of not taking too much stuff and it's comfortable to wear around the waist or even sling over the shoulder when cycling somewhere.
I usually take a small homemade pallete that has 3 primaries, a convenience earth colour, white gouache or opaque white watercolour (for highlights) and a grey or neutral tint. I only take a small A6 sketchbook, one with 100% cotton paper, and a couple of bulldog clips or just elastic bands, with washi tape for borders.
I don't take a board though, because it doesn't fit in the small bag. Mind you, I'm not painting in the desert! I usually paint while in a cafetería or outside on the terrace in the street or in parks. (I live in Madrid, Spain).
