Westerners call it eco friendly when you wrap food with leaves but honestly it's more on additional flavor or aroma and in asian countries it's easier and cheaper to get leaves out of plants and trees than buying plastic especially in isolated areas. At least that's what I know from my country

So yes it's eco friendly but there's actual reason for that and most of the time cause it cost zero money for the leaves 😂
