Advanced Surface Coatings for Lightweight Alloys Used in Aerospace Applications

This study aims to develop advanced coatings for specific, commercially available aerospace alloys of Ti and Al using plasma electrolytic oxidation. A PEO apparatus will be used and optimized coating protocols specific to each alloy type will be developed to create consistent high-quality oxide coatings. The different properties of the surface coating will then be extensively characterized and will be assessed against existing aerospace standards.
