Hey Quite The Chap here for GolfersRX…that was a stupid opening, why do you say it like that, “hey”…Negative self talk…in today’s video.

If you don’t negative self-talk during your round of golf you have reached enlightenment. Which is interesting because I’m sure Monks would even fall into negative self-talk if they took up golf. It’s frustrating, to say the least so how do we stop the constant chatter in the old noggin here.

If you find yourself walking off the green in a huff after four jacking for a quad here is something simple you can do to pull yourself out of your mind.

First off, we’re going to take a couple deep breaths through our nose…get some much-needed oxygen to this

Then we’re going bring ourselves out of your mind and into the present, how?

1 - identify three things around you (don’t judge, just observe three things)
2 - focus on two things you can touch (your hat brim…feel the fabrics, your golf ball…feel the dimples)
3 - lastly, listen for one thing (leaves rustling in the trees, your feet walking through the grass)

This exercise is an abbreviated version of a longer exercise. This is going to help improve your concentration and calm your thoughts. Our biggest obstacle is the constant chatter up here and if we can quiet it down, even just a little, we’re going to be much better for it. We’ll probably start to enjoy this crazy game a little more.
