Labeling "Ham" as a game or a hobby is disingenuous. Mislabeling the FCC regulated band of frequencies allocated for Ham usage, relegates it to the level of a silly or trivial endeavor. While some licensed Hams vehemently disagree with many like myself, the FCC clearly defines what the Ham bands are for, when they can legally be used, and what constitutes "prohibited transmissions" (FCC 97.113, a, 5).
When we receive our Ham certificates, we agree to follow the FCC rules regarding usage of the bands. Sadly, many believe that having their certificate, gives them license to violate all the FCC rules.

Thanks for showing me around the Big Bear back country Randy! I love your Jeep! Thanks for demonstrating for me how cool 4x4 is!

I like this. The internet's favorite Ham Dork and the ever-beloved GMRS Curmudgeon team up for an absolute disaster of a video. Excellent work!

I'm so glad that you verified that ham radio guys and GMRS guys can get along. I was getting pretty tired of arguing with myself!

Randy, thanks for translating all that Josh gibberish into something meaningful showing us how many fars he is talking. Love those bonus fars! 13:28

That was an awesome video Randy. I like seeing the camaraderie you and Josh are having with exposing the fun of ham-radio with the GMRS folks. I’m looking forward to you having more adventures with Josh…. 😎

GMRS was a gateway drug for me to amateur radio. I see the utility of both and enjoy both. I understand "some people" may even reset their radios to operate on both. I enjoy radios, jeeps and both of your channels. Great video, thank you!

Excellent video! Of course GMRS and Amateur Radio can play well together! I hold both licenses and proud of it! Thanks to both of you for cooperating with each other! This is the way radio should be!

Outstanding! You both have bridged the gap of how you can enjoy both GMRS and Ham. I watch both of your videos because I use both as well. If you guys keep this up, you will certainly bring more people into the hobby. In the end, the more people we have on the air, the less we will talk about which aspect is better. I would like to see more videos with you both doing these ventures. I know I would pay to fly out for an off-road adventure to a high altitude location and then make some DX contacts. A perfect vacation!!!

Haven't even watched the video, but so excited. I'm only about a week deep, and these are my two go to, favorite channels.

That's not how I imagined it at all. Seeing Josh easily talk to that many people at those distances with such a portable set-up was very cool. I've seen guys in their sheds with towers and massive equipment talking to mostly static and briefly getting someone from another continent or whatever, but this video was a great representation of how practical and useful ham can be. I'm gonna go watch more of Josh's vids because I've really only been interested in his (very small) channel for his HT presentations and to see what he thinks about whatever beer he picks up for his streams. Thanks for teaming up and bringing us along for this one.

Thank you for doing this Randy and Josh! Now you've got me committed to getting my HAM license. My GMRS radios were perfect for comms between peers and family in our Ozark adventures, but this seems to be the best way to reach the outside world. To everything there is a time and purpose.
