"TerraFonix is the brainchild of Croydon Cessman. and has been involved within the nucleus of dubstep since its early inception, and have been pushing the constantly mutating boundaries of the scene through their own unique, organic lens. The result is Dubliminal, a label dedicated to exploring and evolving a home-grown, spiritual sound inspired by the machinations of dub and it’s younger sibling dubstep.
Cessman has been a familiar name since the 90s. Beginning his musical journey through the saxophone at the age of 16, his jazz and dub orientations have always been at the heart of his ethos. Initially plying his trade as an MC, he met future pioneers Kromestar in 1997, forming the Impact Crew that would specialise in the dark garage sound that pre-empted dubstep. Evolving through various radio stations including Heat FM and Silk FM, guest slots with names such as El-B, Roxy and MC Rumpus on Taste FM were not uncommon.
Bromley’s Soundfusion Records beckoned as the next step in their journey, and this is where Cessman began focusing his energy on the creation of his own productions. The first TerraFonix was formed in 2005 with Kromestar, and the collaboration allowed for fresh techniques and interesting, previously unheard sounds. The next step is where the modern era began, the producers combining all their positive energy to create the massive ‘Kalawanji’, the first release on Mala’s Deep Medi label. The track became an undisputed anthem, firmly establishing the authors at the forefront of the exploding dubstep scene. This allowed Cessman to have full creative control over his sound and set the wheels in motion for the formation of Dubliminal."
