The Shout Color Catcher are the truth. I've been using them for over 7 years. Never had any issues when using them. I've washed everything together from brightest colors to whites to the darkest darks all in one load and never had any issues. I use 2 sheets for small loads and 3 sheets for medium loads. I never do large loads because I want to ensure that my clothes come out as clean as possible.

Check the pockets yes! I have two fishermen in this house and hooks, lines and sinkers are always in their pockets. Just be careful so you don’t get stuck! Also, my hubby is huge on writing notes and I’ve inadvertently washed several pens. I leave tissues in my pockets which disintegrate in the wash. Best reminder ever!

I used to use Downy and Gain Fabric Softener. NOW, I only use white vinegar in the rinse cycle!!

Wow so many good tips vinegar is a must for so many things!
I still sort clothes is so therapeutic to me. Also to me a load isnt done until the clothes is put away. A load a day keeps the laundry away

wow these were super helpful. for years I have wondered what am I doing wrong. I don't think I have found such a comprehensive list. Now that my kids are in school maybe I can figure out how to get the clothes looking good. I hope you don't take this wrong but as a black woman, I love that you are a black homemaker and that you are experienced, not just saying what you found out on pinterest and tried like 3x's hahaha

I also found soaking items in salt water solution helps set the colour.

Denise, thank you for the great tips. I have a question. I am thinking of using navy blue dye for some faded clothing, but it calls for hot water to be used in the dye bath. The fabrics are cotton & linen. I just keep putting the little project off! I would love to hear your thoughts. You are a treasure of home making ideas!

I have 2 laundry issues that I'm not able to resolve. The first is my large dogs stinky dog bed cover. Doesn't matter how much I wash it and put it on the clothes line, the stink is always there. Soaking in vinegar does help. Second is dirty stained kitchen towels. No amount of soaking in OXI has helped or a hot bleachy wash. The stains do not come out. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

I have a bad habit of forgetting to check pockets and a tube of lip balm will go through my laundry. A couple times this has left dark oily spots all over the clothes from the product melting in the dryer and getting into the fabric.

My laundry woe is teenage boy funk it's real I have to wash his clothing separately due to the still smells after washing and I use crystals for sents they still smell like pits even clean.
