The Canadian pharmacist Marcellus Gilmore Edson in Montréal city, filed a patent in 1884 for a "peanut candy". Edson had the idea to heat and grind the peanuts to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in order to obtain a thick liquid. When cooled, as quoted "a consistency similar to butter, lard or ointment".
That was the first peanut butter. Kellog only copied the Canadian Peanut Candy and simply rename it as peanut butter. He did not invent it!
