Its been 6 years since the 2019 16" Macbook pro has been released. It may not be on the top of people's shopping list since Apple's M series macbooks came out, but that dosen't mean its not a good value in 2025.

OpenCore will not work after Apple drops intel support as the OS will not be compiled with x86.

I have a 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro with an i7 processor and 512GB of storage. I bought it new in 2021, and it hasn't presented any issues to this day. It has no signs of use and is still updated. I believe it will easily last another 3 to 5 years. The only drawbacks of this model are the battery life, which isn't as long as an M1, and the heating, which is normal for this model.

I bought the 15" 2015 model for US$180 and refurbished myself by changing to a faster and larger NVME, remove antiglare coating, replace the thermal paste of GPU and CPU, and later replace the battery for US$55, it works like a charm. refurbish cost less than US$110 and total cost US$290, when it was bought new the price around US$1700-1800.

I got one and it only lasted me like 5 months. I was using it for spotify one morning and it suddenly shut down on me. I had it checked through Apple, and they quoted me $1, 000 just to fix it. They diagnosed the Logic board as the main issue and I simply decided to not have it repaired. I chatted with the Apple employee and I had mentioned that I rarely turn it off and I just close the lid whenever I'm done. I shut it down like once a month. So the Apple employee told me that if your macbook isn't M1 or latest, you shouldn't do what I do. Turn your Macbooks off if they're intel based. Just sharing!

Just bought this macbook pro model for final cut pro and I love it. I used to use a macbook air 2017 so the upgrade is quite significant in terms of everything haha

All Intel iMac's, MacBooks and PCs get hot and have fan noise. It was never considered a problem before this laptop was released and that's why all the unnecessary hysteria surrounding this model is melodramatic and ridiculous. Do any of you have a meltdown when your PS5 heats up and makes noise? How about your TV or other appliances? How about your phones? 🤣Fact is, the MBP 2019 is the best Intel MacBook ever made and nothing can change this. It received rave reviews when it was released for a reason and contrary to what YouTube "benchmarkers" claim, the i9 is more powerful and outperforms Apple Silicon, a glorified iPad chip, in many ways. I still use my i9 MacBook for professional recording because it's frankly better than Apple Silicon for music production.

Never really got to used a mac, only windows and Linux but wanted to finally try out a mac fully on my own, I preferred to go all out when I found the 2019 macbooks still had really good value,

Everyone complains about the fan noise. And all you have to do is reapply the thermal paste. These are Intels so they create a lot of heat anyway. But you have to apply thermal paste on a CPU every 2 years.

These are so cheap on eBay now and I really want to get one. But, I heard they have a design flaw that means they could just die at any moment

I highly recommend you replace the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU and look into the cooling mods via thermal pads for these i9’s. They run hot which causes throttling and effects performance . Another thing to be careful with is the screen, opening and closing too much can cause damage to the flex display cable causing issues.

They need to make a backpack with removable straps. Sometimes I like to carry mine by the top handle. But, the straps drag along the ground. Surely they can design one with detachable straps

I want to buy a MacBook, I just use it for light stuff, watching movies and maybe Microsoft office for school. So should I get the M1 MacBook Air or the 2019 MacBook Pro 16” because I’m really liking the size and for the M series you can’t buy the bigger sizes because they are super expensive?

Would this be a good buy over the M1 Air? (I realize how much I’d be wasting in terms of the potential of the machine but I love the screen size to forget that)

I just bought a used one and I’m scared. Anything I can do to make sure it last 13 years like my last one?
