Not exclusively but British towns suffixed with -chester, -caster, -cester were originally Roman forts.

Actually as someone from Colchester we weren't that fussed about being a city or not 😅 it's just costing the council money having to change all the signs 🙄Thanks for the video on us though 😁

Also fun fact there are statues of elephants everywhere because apparently emperor Claudius marched elephants through Colchester as a sign of prowess

The way you pronounced Ripon was absolutely brutal 😂 but for real, the only reason Ripon is a city is because it has a Cathedral, given that the typical criteria has either been to be a cathedral city or meet city status based on population. Lets not tear down other cities in the process of getting Colchester recognised though! Colchester looks amazing but Ripon has its own interesting history and incredible beauty of it's own too :)

St Asaph has a cathedral where they wrote the first Bible in Welsh. But as a city it's basically just a small village with a Coop, bakery and a pub. That's all they have. Nice place though!

Colchester was fairly prominent in the Civil War too. However, whilst it is Britain's oldest recorded town, it's pretty doubtful that it is in fact the oldest town.
