I hate that shards are so rare and in order to progress you have to get 1000+ shards and you don't have any so ya have to pay like 50$ to even progress through the first part

I just got to level 36 and unlocked hulk the normal way, but it doesn't let me smash debris with him. there was a quest where Fury wanted him to do that and when I got through the dialogue it had automatically declared that step of the quest to be completed without me having to actually DO anything. Does it only work when you buy him with shards?
