There are lots of people living in the bushes on the fringe of the City Bowl, each night the air is filled with acrid fumes as meals are cooked using whatever combustible materials they can find. The CCT should have removed them long ago, but continued to turn a blind eye. Now we have another major disaster caused by vagrant fires. I'm also wondering about the UCT library fire.

Well the people lose their jobs. They have nowhere to go and nowhere to stay. Politicians live like kings and people get arrested for starting fires because they need to eat something. If some form of dwelling was provided for that man this would not have happened. But to be judgemental is immature, insecure and naive Matthew. What if you lost your job tomorrow. What would you do, where would you go. I guess stay by family.

It has been a known fact that families are living in the bushes and mountains of Cape Town and the rest of South Africa. Why not assist in ensuring that their nomadic lifestyles are a feature of society. They are treated very poorly, called vagrants by government officials and this ignorance of them is bound to cause complex problems for the environment and property. Policies, regulations and bylaws are drawn up to punish them and make them disappear instead of acknowledging them and planning for their unique existence.
