7 Types of Healthcare IT Jobs

What are some of the different types of Healthcare IT jobs available? In this video, I list some of the more common types of Health IT jobs that I have come across since starting my Healthcare IT career in 2005. There are many other types of it jobs in the healthcare industry besides the ones I listed below. So I believe their is a lot of opportunity to start a Healthcare IT career.

What are some Healthcare IT jobs you have come across during your career?

I've mostly worked on the payer /health plan side of health care, so RIS and PACS are not terms I hear very often. They sound more like they are used on the Provider/Hospital side. We mostly work with CIS, EHR, EMR and Provider Credentialing apps. But I look at my company's job board as of today with key word "PACS" and sure enough I find positions like "Enterprise Imaging Systems Analyst III" and "EPIC Radiant System Analyst" in other offices around the country.

I have an associate's degree in technical and network support. Been in IT in a health care setting for several years. I wanted to move toward the healthcare side but not direct patient care. I think a HIM degree will be my next step.

I originally was pursuing a computer networking degree at my community college but changed majors to a skilled trade path. I kind of want to go back and maybe look at healthcare IT but have no idea where to start or what kind of education I would need. Would it be better to pursue something like the A+ and gain basic IT experience, or maybe just find work in a healthcare setting doing something like billing and coding? Thanks!
