Demography indicators, sex ratio , dependency Ratio (Community Medicine/PSM lecture)

In this video I will be discussing about Demography indiacators including Sex ratio and Dependency Ratio. Sex ratio is the most important indicator of the economic status of woman. The sex ratio of India including child sex ratio is declining which indicates an increase in female foeticide, female infanticide and girl child mortality.
The Dependency Ratio is another important Demography indicator which is the combined ration of children below 15 years of age and people above 65 years of age upon people between 15-65 years if age. The Dependency Ratio in India is almost 50%. Recently there is a decline in young child dependency ratio which is declining due to decline in fertility and increase in old age dependency ratio which is increasing due to increase in longevity and life expectancy.
MCQs from both sex ratio and Dependency rratio are very common.

To further explain the MCQ answer that you gave there, a DR of 0.52 means 52 people are dependent on 100 people, but these 100 people will take care of themselves FIRST before they take care of others. In that case, these 100 people are taking care of themselves (100) and their dependants (52) giving a total of 152 people.
