I've had 70 ounces of water today. My skin stays up for like a minute, lol.

It’s supposed to be done on the upper chest on a flat surface. That part of the finger has compressed skin that can stand up like that regardless of hydration.

credits to the guy who went from being hydrated to dehydrated within a few seconds.

Also be cognizant of your electrolytes! I would drink a lot of water (80+ ounces), pee 6 times a day and my lips were still chapped, I was thirsty, my finger tips were wrinkled (like when you swim for too long), and I would get migraines. Turns out my body wasn't absorbing the water because my electrolytes were imbalanced.

this test can be influenced by factors such as age, body fat percentage, and the presence of underlying medical conditions, so it should be used in conjunction with other tests and clinical assessments to determine hydration status.

It's important to note that the skin turgor test should not be used as the sole method of assessing dehydration, and a more comprehensive evaluation is needed to determine the cause of dehydration and to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

This is not very accurate actually. It is true for some people but the skin texture and elasticity can be modified by many many many different Possible variations in the skin cells. And also it depends on each person's genetics. The best way to know if you are dehydrated is in your brain and is the mechanism that makes you thirsty. Of course that can be fooled too if you have a bad diet, bad habits and sedentarism.

Your body literally has a built in color meter of how hydrated you are when you piss

No, this is not done on the fingers. People who lost weight for years they will have skin that will stay up for a looong time. It's called a turgor test and its done on the hand not the fingers.

As a black human currently living in Africa, I find this very helpful.

The best way to tell if you're dehydrated or not is to just look at the color of your pee.

In nursing we were taught to use the back of the hand. You would count the seconds it takes for it to go back to normal. The slower it returns, the more dehydrated you are. You’d typicAlly do this on the elderly who aren’t fully capable to drink fluids on their own either do the dementia or someone in a coma etc

Its Similar to the opposite test of fluid retention. You would press the skin on your arm or calf to see if a dimple remains; with massive fluid retention your skin will actually *OOZE or LEAK LIQUID* which is common to see on the lower extremities due to gravity. I’ve seen it with some patients with congestive heart failure. Seeing the skin ooze always makes me wince with uncomfortably. That can’t feel all too great, but I’m sure the symptoms of their other co-morbidities is likely worse.

Using the knuckle is an interesting and I’d say uncommon way to test for dehydration.

The real skin turgor test is on your collar bone don’t let these guys worry you, you have a lot of extra skin on your unflexed finger so of course it’s gonna stay up for a few seconds

Dehydration checks are usually in the morning when your throat is drier than a thousand suns

Ya...Doing this on your knuckles is a terrible place to test this... you may simply have more skin over your knuckles which will distort into whatever shape you mold it into and stay that way until you move your finger again... it is best to test this on the back of your hand
