The open strings part definitely needed the Eddie Van Halen thing he does in Eruption, and a slew of other songs. Open string on the high E, 8 to 5 to open pull off on the B string, and flat fifth at the 8th fret on the G string. You can move this around, and at the speed it should be played, the open strings don't matter much.
