FMF PowerBomb For WR250R Review

Hermit reviews the FMF PowerBomb header after riding a full season with it and going back to the stock header to see how they compare.

Here's a link to the MegaBomb review:

Here's the comment FMF made on the MegaBomb review:
"Hermit. Wanted to reach out to answer a few questions you mentioned in your video. 1. Why don't the OEM's have a header like FMF? Well 2016 KTM, Kawasaki, Husqvarna all have Megabomb style headers as their stock OEM headers. We do have a patent but have allowed these brands to use our technology. 2. Why don't racers use them? The top racers and champions all over the world use these products including Factory Yamaha who purchased our product to race the 2016 Monster energy Cup. 3. Why is the chamber the same size for all models from 250/450 bikes? The actual chamber is the same size but the tubing size and actual holes in the resonance chamber vary from every model. Hope some of these answers help you out and appreciate the support! Thanks"

I can tell you for a fact that a Monster Energy drink sticker and perhaps a Metal Mulisha sticker will add at least 3 horse power and 7mph top end speed - easy.

I love my wr250r, thanks for saving me some money.

I ran my 2007 WR450F with a stock header and a Power Core for a while then installed a Mega B. It mostly made it a bit quieter and just a tad more snappy. Getting your jetting right is the key, at least on my old blue stag without FI. It all comes down to what you want with bikes not what actually need. Face it, none of us NEED a dirt bike. But we want them. To each their own, FMF sells good stuff IMO and money changing hands keep the country running.

I agree, and it’s like that with any pipe manufacture really. The engineers probably know more about the bikes they build than we do and they have the money to put into R&D on their engines. Honestly, these engines nowadays are maxed out for us already. For two strokes pipes mattered more because they could change the powerband.

Well I think you are spot on when you're talking about a 4 stroke. I think it's really cool that the FMF responded to your comment but then again you are a famous Hermit. I agree a pro racer needs to squeeze every ounce of power and save every ounce of weight that they can but for the average guy a diet and a little practicing in the yard would be of a greater benefit to them. I also like stock because I attend to see more wildlife than the guys with the loud exhaust. Each to their own and if a guy wants to purchase the FMF by all means he should. I think most of the guys knows it doesn't help but they need to have a excuse ready for when their wife says, why in the heck do we need to buy a 300 dollar exhaust for a brand new bike, didn't it come with one. Stay safe

Keep in mind, you can tune for low 'RPM torque or high RPM Horsepower. These are two wildly different things.

I put a Q4 on and noticed a slight performance difference, even though I heard I really wasn't supposed to.
I did the no toil air filter, and... no (or very negligible) response. Did the Megabomb, fuel controller and AIS block off, noticed a difference.
Now I'm wondering if I'll notice the diff if I put the stock header on and leave the programmer and block off

I like your comedic reviews! I was somewhat surprised at the number of people that didn't catch onto the sarcasm in the last video, but then I remembered this is YouTube.

I got this channel when I typed "exhaust benefits" because I wasn't convinced it was necessary. thx.

Hermit there is a reason why most people will feel more power with a stock exhaust. An engine is nothing but an air pump. Suck, Bang, Blow lol. It sucks in air, mixes with fuel, spark goes bang, and exhaust blows out. Factory settings, exhaust, carbs are designed to give you the most power off idle at low rpm ranges where 99% of people ride them. Opening up the flow of ""the pump"" with airbox, carb and exhaust mods overloads the system at these off idle low rpm speeds and so the bike will feel less torquey from a stop. At higher RPMs however ""the pump"" can move more air and it will make more top end power. There are other sciences of exhaust such as scavenge (how fast a pipe can expel exhaust) but for the most part the bikes come set up from the factory to give you the best low end power within noise levels mandated by law since dual sports have to comply with DOT standards. So bottom line if you are not running at 3/4 throttle or more, aftermarket pipes lose small amount of power. Having said that I have FMF pipes on two of my bikes just because they sound bitchin lolol, and I ride alot in traffic where its good to be heard by the idiot drivers on their cellphones.

Exhaust systems on modern bikes are near perfection by design, limited only be the DB requirements and emissions. The emission is to avoid a red sticker bike, like here in CA. No one here will by a red sticker bike you can only ride a couple months out of the year. Aftermarket exhausts only offer a weight savings and the perceived power of additional noise. Most might give a one or two HP gain at WFO. The best gains are achieved by opening the intake tract and a proper tune, typically 3-5 HP through out the power band. All the after market pipe manufactures will tell you to re-jet or re-map not because their pipes will alter the air/fuel ratio but to get a proper A/F that will make more power in and of itself. And, yes for the optimal gains it will always be Air box mods, air filter medium, exhaust system and a proper A/F ratio. Aside from motor mods like cams, cam timing, altering displacement and so on.

I'm in 100% agreement with Hermit. Save your money. And as always, Hermit,  my pizza was exceptionally good tonight. Too greasy to properly seal the manila envelop. Maybe next time I'll remember ZipLok baggies, two baggies, one for the beer.

Hi hermit! Thanks for the video! In europe the fmf is not allowed due to emissions. What do you think of using a 48t rear sprocket? Wouldn‘t that be a good tweak?

Hermit You are absolutely correct on this subject. Put a PowerBomb on my 2015 XR650L. Yeah. Stock header is going back on and jet kit is coming out. Bike had more power in stock form....

I just noticed something that you said which makes a lot of sense and directly coincides with FMF racing's only description of why you should get this. They even recommend on their website that if you're just getting an exhaust for dual sport to go with the straight header or standard header. Show even they're saying there's really no point in getting the powerbomb or megabomb for anything other than a race.. I think you're totally right it's a total waste of time to get the mega bomber powerbomb if you're just trying to put it on a dual sport

Way to keep it real Hermit! And you Brought professional backup (Everide) with some PC word smithing to keep the guys unable to take it straight from breaking down in tears Lol. You covered all the bases and saved some much cherished moto cash around the world from being spent irresponsibly.

a factory head pipe is set for all around power. This gives you a smooth power curve. aftermarket pipes generally give you either better power in a certain power range. some give you better torque in the low and mid range rpm, but most are race pipes and that will give you the most power at higher rpm. A street and trail rider will not comfortably get anything out of that setup.
