one of the most horrifying facts of this is the mom's recliner was next to the couch where lacey was..the mom just eating and watching tv next to her daughter's horrendous condition being in all that pain and filth... that's a horrible image..and it went on for so long too

Who does NOT clean up poop when it is permeating the house? The parents were crazy. RIP Lacey.

Parents should be jailed for life that’s it

"Gave Lacey everything she needed"

Seems like they forgot about love and affection

I'm a former LPN, too chronically ill to work now. I did private duty, in home care for folks like Lacey. Her parents could EASILY have worked with nursing provider companies and insurance to see that Lacey had 16 hours a day of care completely provided to them. All they needed to do was sign contracts with nursing providers.

You should have mentioned that the parents also blamed what happened to Lacey on her being "lazy"

her parents basically left her to die and rot for 13 years. id like to know why they did this, how can parents stop caring for their child like that?

Why would it have taken 12 years to be finally concerned for your daughter

This reminds me of a story I heard where a girl was chained to a bed in the attic by her parents for years and was extremely malnourished, but luckily still alive, when police found her

She died at 36, she was taken out of high school at 16, we know she was fused to the couch for 12 years, but I can't imagine what the parents could of been doing to her for the 8 YEARS before she fused to the couch, it's horrible to think of.

There is some debate over whether Lacy actually had locked in syndrome, as pieces of the couch stuffing were found in her stomach, indicating that she had eaten parts of the couch. It also seems like she may have shifted position at least a few times, but was unable to get up.
There have been other cases, such as a woman in Kansas, who stayed in a bathroom for two years with her boyfriend bringing her food. At first, she moved around the bathroom, but eventually refused to move from the toilet, until her skin began growing into the toilet seat. In another case, a man was bringing groceries to his elderly neighbor, who was always seated in his recliner whenever he dropped them off. It was later discovered that the man hadn’t left the chair in years, and his body had fused with the fabric, much like Lacy’s.
This is the result of severe mental illness, usually a combination of depression, and obsession-oriented form of obsessive-compulsive disorder, agoraphobia, and severe anxiety. Not all cases are as bad as this; most just become shut-ins who never leave their house. Lacy seemed to be neurodivergent, and suffered from anxiety. As her mental illness became harder to manage, she became a shut-in, and progressed to spending all her time sitting in the same spot on the couch, eventually culminating in her refusal to leave the couch for any reason. Instead of getting her some much-needed mental help, Lacy’s parents chose to ignore Lacy’s change in behavior, in hopes that she would “snap out of it”.

As someone who worked in funeral service before, finding someone melted in to the couch is more common than people would like to know. About 70% of us will die alone and is going to be found when the neighbours report bad smell and leaking ceiling.

How could anyone be so negligent and horrific. Also was this disease a recent thing? Was there something a doctor could’ve done to help her?

Exactly what use is a portable potty for someone who can't move? People like that need to be moved constantly to avoid bed sores, and any doctor would say so. Look at how expensive and well-maintained the house is in that picture of the parents. Years of grotesque neglect IS premeditation. These people deserve worse than life in prison.

I think... Lacy died not even feeling human anymore. The sheer psychological and emotional anguish she must have felt... There's no way she didn't wish for it to finally end. I hope... She was able to retreat somewhere into her mind because this... Rest in peace Lacy. Sincerely, rest in peace. Nobody should ever have this happen to them and feel alone or worse.

For those curious before looking up the photo, it shows some clothes along with a poop-like liquid in the middle of the sofa’s mashed in surface, it’s not even recognizable as a person and it’s absolutely disgusting

imagine all of this happening and you cannot do ANYTHING. you can literally only stay in the same position and accept your demise. just…. horrifying

this case makes me so mad because i understand lacey and relate to her so much as someone with extremely poor mental health and autism and the fact that her parents JUST LET HER ROT THERE it makes my blood boil, she should've gotten the help she needed; rest in peace lacey

How can you ignore and isolate your child in urgent medical care needs. Her sores were down to the bone. I think her suffering was extreme and prolonged. I feel so sorry for this beautiful girl.
