To get our first impression of Yamaha new 6-speed YXZ1000R SS, we stopped by the demo truck at DuneFest, signed up, strapped in and mashed the throttle. Here's what our GoPro captured on the ride. If you are anywhere near Yamahas demo truck, go on one of their rides. Although our video is only 5 minutes long, the entire ride was closer to a half hour, so it's a great way to test out any new product.

Too bad you couldn't let it "eat" a bit more. I'm also very interested to know how low 1st. gear is. Hope this thing will be good in the trails as well. Thank you for sharing.

It is noisy and but I love it..its the best noise I have ever heard....I love mine...and I ride in Rocky hilly areas... Uwarrhie national Forest and WV trails....I did install a heavier flywheel.... freaking awesome

Where are you guys located? I’m in Miami & wish we had this terrain. But we have the ocean so I bought a Yamaha VXR jetski with 1800cc so I guess lol

I got a 22 xtr I'm not too sad about auto shift and the lower first. I do no rock crawling what so ever he'll most of my riding is on the street. Its nice to see Yamaha do some upgrades but its nothing that makes me wanna trade mine in. I am looking forward to your full review tho the for posting this a !ot of people have given up on the YXZ

imo i think its nice to have auto to branch out to more people who dont want to learn manual but that takes away the uniqueness and fun of the original yxz and yes i know you can change it to manual but still i think it's more fun to have it full manual and bang gears

Seemed like you could hear the gears clanking when it shifted. Is that the case?

The paddles should move with the steering wheel instead of being stationary

I've grown to hate my YXZ. Just sent my engine off for the 2nd time to be rebuilt in 3000 miles. It's never seen the Rev limiter. It's never over heated. I'm regular on oil changes. I'm probably trading for a pro xp when i get it back together.

Only SxS with a decent, not ugly-as-sin design, so the only real option

I have 23 xtr. 5th gear is not enough. I am 5000 rpm at 50mph.
Otherwise, it is a great toy.
