Regarding the free Yao: it's worth noting that his patch was essentially an analogue for the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, which I believe is a major holiday over there that's second only to Lunar New Year. They likely gave Yao for free because of that holiday. If we get a similarly themed patch this year (probably around 2.6 or 2.7), then the Moon-Chasing Festival is likely going to become WuWa's equivalent to Genshin's Lantern Rite event.

Free XLY was a mix of circumstances. 1.2 was expected to have lowest engagement and money (filler story-wise, two relatively unattractive characters, people's wallets empty after Jinhsi+Changli spendings etc.), they basically were okay with not earning anything big with him, so they tried to get at least a bit of media presence because of the free giveaway. But yeah that also set a precedent, and now the inflation of expectations tells us that they should give another limited 5 star on anni, because anni is ofc more important than a festival. So it's natural to expect, but still better be prepared for expectations not being met.

don't want to confirm anything, but I do remember hearing rumours that Tencent demanded that Kuro doesn't give a free character to improve sales revenue. Not confirmed but would definetly suck if that happens to be true.

The likelihood of a free 5 star is more than likely in my opinion. I just don’t think it’d be Zani or the new bard girl, as they’re probably too new.
Perhaps they’d give you a redeemable ticket for a past limited 5 star?

There's one more reason to believe it might be Ciaccona. For Spectro Frazzle, Rover is able to stack up to 10 on their own, meaning Phoebe/Zani already have a free partner. But for Aero Rover, they only convert a different debuff into Erosion, and can't generate it themselves.

As it stands now, they can only release a resonator that uses Aero Erosion for damage once a sub-DPS/support who generates Erosion is released first, since Rover doesn't work. If we assume that support will be Ciaccona, then future Aero banners might still have their sales hurt if people didn't also pull Ciaccona prior. If a copy of Ciaccona is given away, it will give people a baseline character to pair up with other Aero Erosion units, which can help to sell more of those other units down the line.

Personally, I think Kuro is kind of digging themselves a hole with this whole Frazzle/Erosion/etc. thing, but it's what they want to do, so it feels like giving away an Erosion generator is kind of a no-brainer for their long term.

I would love a limited 5* selector. I started in 2.0 and so I never had the opportunity to get Jiyan, Yinlin, or Xiangli Yao. I would absolutely love the ability to just pull for them and their weapons over the anniversary, as well as to potentially pick up Camellya (who I am skipping for Zani) and Phoebe (who I lost the 50/50 on).

Clarification: During launch we started with a standard 5 star selector already (and also a guaranteed random standard 5 star from the beginner banner). A SECOND selector was given out due to launch issues. This is how I have Calcharo (random from beginner banner), Jianxin (1st selector) and Verina (2nd selector).

Another reason why they could give Ciaccona for free is that they're leaning heavily into the negative statuses like Frazzle and Erosion. A lot of F2P/low spenders will probably be lacking in these. Aero Rover doesn't even inflict erosion even if they get their sequences AFAIK, they just buff erosion, they need someone else to inflict a status so they can convert it/stack it. Frazzle is the only one available right now, and Phoebe and Spectro Rover are the only ones who can inflict Frazzle reliably. Can't have Spectro and Aero Rover on the same team so that just leaves Peebs, who is limited and currently unavailable. If they're going to develop content that gives you bonuses for negative status (like maybe ToA), and there's no foreseeable 4 star on the horizon, they just might give out Ciaccona.

I'm just really crossing my fingers for a free Ciaccona lol.

Nah wuwa really needs the revenue, as seen from all the gooner material they’ve been releasing. Free characters will be between jiyan, yinlin, xiangli yao

personally i think xiangli sets a precedent. its thr reason these companies have to be dragged across the line. because they cant turn back. an anniversary that doesnt do that is a recipe for disaster. i doubt it will be ciaconna for this same reason. personally i beleive an early limited will be it. a standard definitely isnt enough, it goes againt the image of them making progress. the story and game are moving forwarrd so the 5 star has to be symbolic of that.

Another interesting possibility would be a 5* limited weapon selector. Characters sell way more than weapons, but a free 5* weapon would still generate a lot of positive PR and make players happy.

KURO could also make a banner that encompasses all limited 5* with a 100% rate up and you get to choose who to get. They did it with PGR's Anniversaries, so it's likely they'll do it here too.

If I presume that Ciaccona will be made a "free" Limited 5star because she is clearly overshadowed by the Zani hypetrain I would then expect her to be given as part of an anniversary quest reward and we will be informed of this on the pre-anniversary livestream. Marketing-wise this may encourage people to spend more on Zani's banner and the Limited Weapon banners and get people more invested into the game.

The most real scenary is Jiyan and Yilin being for free. Or they will give XY again, or his weapon. Ciaconna being free i think its possible, but i would not be so sure, XY situation might be one of a time. And this would make the players think every aniversary we would have the current banner character as free.
