This week we take a look at some of the books that have been published that can help a practitioner explore the intricacies of Greek Polytheism and the Ancient Greek roots of much of the Western magical tradition.

(One book I omitted quite by mistake is:
Magic and Magicians in the Greco-Roman World by Matthew W. Dickie)

Your videos are so well done, so well researched, and your perspective is so sensible I just .. wanna sit down and cry. It's SO GOOD, so so GOOD. You are doing the gods work here, my good man. I am a folk magic practitioner with a Norse pagan flavour (I worship and work with Loki, and before anyone jumps me in the comments, I mean the Norse god not Marvel Loki) and... I wanna know more. I wanna expand my knowledge, and even if I won't use anything I discover in the books you've recommended, that's perfectly fine! I will still know a lot of interesting things, and that's amazing!!
Love your channel, you are my favourite youtuber of all times! Thank you so much for your work!

The golden ass reads like a modern novel, it's incredible how funny and relatable it is despite being a second-century text.

Simply put, Another amazing video for your modern-day magician. The deities that I have devoted myself to are Greek and Kemetic so it was pretty confusing at first when they were directing me to Judaic, Roman and Christian sources of Magick. But some of these texts start to make it all make more and more sense on how the systems can be interconnected in a way.

I worked Tony Mierzwicki book Graeco Egyptian Magick: Everyday Empowerment. It was the book he wrote prior to Hellinismos and it was incredible. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to a PGM based series of planetary workings.

Mandelbaum was such a great translator. He got me interested in Antiquity with his translations of Ovid and Vergil (he also has a pretty good translation of Dante as well). I can't recommend his translations enough! May he rest in peace.

I just discovered your channel and I'm amazed to find a book I have that you don't - I've got the entire Encyclopedia Goetica. Just the paperbacks, alas. I watched a bunch of your Ouroboros Press reviews and just sent them... several hundred dollars 😅. I am fortunate to have more money than self control right now but I'm out of shelf space!

Described your book collection to someone I suggested the channel to as a "Modern day Library of Alexandria" and I truly meant it, as Mr. David Chaim Smith said yesterday "Thank you Mr.Fish"

wanted to leave a comment for the Algorithm overlord aswell. 😅

Christmas came early! This video put a smile on my face. It's probably the first time you've listed a bunch of books that I have already read and own in one video. I've been practicing (or at least trying to practice) Greek paganism for a couple of years nows. I've struggled to keep a steady and consistent practice, but this video has encouraged me to reevaluate things and keep trying. I'll have to check out some of these other books.

As for my recommendation, I'd suggest "On the Gods and the World" by Sallust. It's a great example of an ancient person's own understanding of Greco-Roman theology. Reading it, I became more convinced that the teachings of Christ and Greek paganism are not as diametrically opposed as many people (even people in those ancient times) think. In fact, you can see the Greek roots of many Christian ideas just in Sallust's writing. It's one of the reasons why, despite my more pagan beliefs, I don't have anything against attending a church service.

🙏 Athena guide you! may she protect your heart from fear and your head from madness. May it be so!

I have found the Orphic Hymns book so useful. The uses you can apply the contents of this book to is huge if you use a little imagination. I feel much more comfortable using hymns from Ancient Greece than reciting occult texts of the last few centuries.

Very interesting, I read The Odyssey for an online course a few years ago and one of my current books that I’m reading is The Song of Achilles

Awesome video! Would you consider doing a similar one for Roman polytheism and cults?

Foolish fish, first of all thanks for your work and everything you share.
I was wondering if you have ever drunk "ayahuasca" if you don't know it (I guess you do) it is really mindblowing, i have experienced and learned a lot from the plants🙏

how funny as I was just researching the Greek system last night and came across an interesting quote by proclus that states "the entirety of hellenistic theology is the offspring of the orphic mystical doctrine " while this in itself isn't earth shattering it does make me wonder if this was appropriated from the Egyptians story of apep.. either way my reading list just got bigger again.. great video as always
