It's totally possible to do this! I was a stay at home mom for 5 years and now that it's time to go back to work I stumbled on your channel and after 3 months of dedicating my free time to watching your videos, taking the Google Data Analytics Certification on Coursera, and using all your tips to make a portfolio, write a resume, and interview I got a Data Analyst job!! Thank you so much Alex!

I love the motivation behind this video! 6 months ago I decided I wanted to be a Data Analyst. I cut out my distractions and set some goals. I took the Google Certificate, completed the capstone, built a portfolio, and 3 weeks ago I started applying to jobs. Its definitely tough juggling a full time job/family as well but I can’t wait to see where the grind gets me in the long run! Currently I spend 2h every day of the week job hunting/applying and every weekend working on projects to add to my portfolio. I keep telling myself all this hard work has to pay off, I can’t wait! Now if only I could find some time to take more Coursera courses haha.

My ADHD went undiagnosed till last year at 27, and even now with treatment, procrastination is always going to be an issue for me. Something that sounds so simple like "just get rid of distractions" does not work for me, as I can be distracted by literally anything and everything. If any ADHDers are reading this, you CAN progress but it is a lot harder and you do need to find things that work with your brain - neurotypical advice like "get a planner" does not usually work for us.

Data analysis is actually great for ADHD brains as we are creative, problem solvers, we think outside the box, and are great at pattern recognition. Despite the misleading name we also have great attention to detail. I found your channel when I was looking into data as a career, I'm almost done with the Google DA Cert and I just landed my first job in data. I've only been taking this seriously for 5 months.

Alex this isn't to discount your advice or anything, but just reassurance for anyone else here with ADHD - we beat ourselves up a lot for procrastinating and not feeling good enough but it's a result of our disability, our brains are different and we have to work around that.

Great video Alex! Speaking personally, my phone/YouTube are the biggest distractions I have currently. It’s so easy to waste 1-2 hours scrolling and watching random videos.

When you talked about getting rid of distractions and your xbox, it reminded me what I did a couple of months back that I also sold my ps4 for the same reasons. It's really the aspect that is harder for me to get through. We as humans are most of the time looking for short gratification and it's easy to forget about the long term planning. Great content!

Thanks, for sharing your experience. A proven tip to overcome acute procrastination is just starting working because once you get the car moving, it gets much easier.

Time & energy - those are my blockers. For me, it's creating extra time and energy in addition to my 50-hour/week full-time job. I realize some might argue that if it's a priority, you'll make the time for it. The only success I've had at attacking this issue is trying to spread studying and prep time out into 30-minute chunks since I can't afford an additional 2-3 hours per day. I'd have no balance if that were the case. Adding this type of activity in incremental chunks is the only way I can do this and not sacrifice too much family time.

I have been procrastinating to even watch this video when I first saw it in my feed 😂. Definitely need to make a plan. Hopefully I don't procrastinate doing that and get started again.

Perfect video! I have been studying a lot and sometimes I feel myself overwhelmed and not sure if my approach is the most correct, but I stick with my plan, adjusting here and there, little by little I can see progress. That's about creating momentum...

“A stupid plan is better than no plan.” - Jordan Peterson. All important points. I think the underlying problem for most people (including myself) is not having a clear plan and something to aim for.
