I’m Haitian and I haven’t went to Haiti since the Earthquake. I’m still traumatized on what happened, seeing my aunt die in front of me still haunts me.

My father is a doctor and went to Haiti in 2010 after the earthquake with the international red-cross.
I was only 9 years old back then and didn't really know or understand much about it. This video gives a really good explanation to me and all the other's, who were very young back then.
My father went to Port-au-Prince and then worked their for 8 weeks in a field hospital, if I remember correctly. I still remember the day he came back to Germany and I saw him again. It was his last international visit in an other country to help after a catastrophe. He had a lot of great stories to tell after he came back!

So many times I look at old photos of my old family and ask my parents who a member was just to realize they died that day. I still don’t know how many uncles, aunts and cousins I lost.

On August 14, 2021, a *M 7.2* earthquake struck the western side of Haiti, making the earthquake the strongest to hit the country since 1842. Shaking was felt all across Hispaniola and even into a few other countries. Hundreds are dead and thousands have been injured. I hope everyone who has been affected recovers from this horrendous and devastating disaster.

I was visiting Haiti, and departed 2 days before the earthquake. During my trip I visited an elementary school that would have been in one of the hardest hit areas. Still makes me sad to think about.

I'm dominican, and I remember that earthquake very vividly. I was 12 at the time, and was playing with my friends when we felt these huge tremors (stronger than usual), but we didn't give it much thought at that moment, until I went to my house and my mother told me just what happened. We were in shock and spent the night watching the news and Facebook. I didn't went to school the other day.

The next day my family donated lots of food, toilet papers and clothes we didn't use.

Another thing I remember is my french teacher. He lost many family members and didn't went to school for days. When he came back he told his story and sang "La Dessalinienne" in front of the entire school. It was really sad.

I also remember some nasty things... Those chain mails saying that Haiti was hit because of their religion... What the fuck

I think one of the reasons why buildings were built of mostly concrete is due to it being able to cheaply resist hurricane force winds. Because don't forget that island gets hit by major hurricanes almost every year.

Another earthquake hit Haiti today, a 7.2 magnitude. Actually stronger than the 2010 one. 200 have died already, who knows how much larger the death toll could be
