Ah, good old Fallout 1, the most poetic Fallout...
You're a hero and you have to leave

Poor overseer, here's what is going throw his mind, "I'm going to have to go and tell this man with power armor and machine guns he cant come back home, Darn."

Fallout at it’s core is a very depressing tale that the world has already lost its humanity.

“I've made a lot of tough decisions since I took this position. But none of them harder than this one. You saved us, but you'll kill us. I'm sorry. You're a hero... and you have to leave.” -The Overseer

A rest in peace, to our Fallout king.
Rest in peace, Mitten Squad.

When roleplaying as the Vault Dweller, when he was banished I had him consider shooting the Overseer, but then have the character realize that kind of thought is maybe why he doesn't belong in the Vault anymore.

He still hates the Overseer and the entire situation, but now he at least thinks he understands why and deep down agrees that it might be best the Vault Dweller and Vault 13 remain separate.

No matter what they tell ya, the wasteland never changes. And you can't get rid of the wasteland, but it can sure as hell get rid of you.

I felt really sad for Vault Dweller. He saved the world, but at the cost of his friends. When he returned home, he was unwelcome and banished.

Fallout 1 has probably one of the most bitter endings in all of gaming, you are a hero and you did great...

and that's why you can't return home anymore

and don't forget to wear your eye goggles if leaving the vault for the first time, sudden exposure to sun light after years spent in the vault can result in permanent damage to eye vision!

The ending to this game actually had me in tears. It taught me a lesson that there is a price to pay for being a good person. My character: being the one man who saved vault 13 and the rest of the wasteland was abandoned and left to fend for himself after driving out the super mutants. What an amazing and poetic game. I cant wait to play Fallout 2.

I am glad that they picked this song over "I don't wan't to set the world on fire."
"I don't want to set the world on fire" is perfect for Fallout 3. The Lone Wanderer doesn't want to set the world (The DC Wasteland) on fire (making the water dangerous to drink) so he actually activates the water purifier.

"Maybe, " on the other hand, is literally PERFECT for Fallout 1. It perfectly sets the tone for the series right from the get-go at the intro. Not only that, the lyrics could just be what the Vault Dweller is thinking as he walks away from Vault 13 with his head hanging low;

"Maybe, you'll ask me to come back again... And maybe, I'll say, maybe..."

The most bone-chilling, yet somehow morbidly comical, opening cut-scene in video game history - to date.

Every other Fallout game happened because the Vault Dweller was kicked out of his home. If the Chosen One never existed, the Enclave would have destroyed everything in Fallout 2. RIP Albert Cole, your suffering was not in vain.

My son has been listening to this in his vault room. Lucky him, I have to go into the wasteland for supplies.
