In this clip, John Salley recounted his side of the story regarding TK Kirkland stealing a watch from Eddie Murphy. According to John, he was the one who took TK to Eddie’s house the night he stole the watch but TK provided a different version of events as the two hopped on the phone mid-interview to get to the bottom of things.

I think technically they were both right. TK stole the watch in 82’, but then in 89’ he must’ve tagged along with Salley to Eddie’s party. Which was the first time John heard about “bringing a watch thief to the party” unbeknownst to him it having happened years earlier.

Seems like the incident happened in 82/83. TK had no contact with Eddie for a few years, then Salley bought him to Eddie's house in 89 and they were like, why would you bring him here?! He stole from Eddie. And Salley assumed it was a recent incident.

I believe John's story. I think Tk has his dates confused because 82 is when Eddie started his fire storm of success, back to back wins- he already knew Kenan at that time ofcourse but i dont think he was aware of TK until later

In a sense, it seems that both are kind of correct. TK stole the watch in '82 but John Salley wasn't there and it seems like he was in high school. However, years later, Salley took TK with him to Eddie's house, to which they then said that the comedian stole a watch. John Salley thought they were talking about at that party and with so much going on, probably never got clarity. The strange thing is that TK still went to the party, knowing they knew he was a thief, but showed up with an NBA player, figuring he'd still be good and it would be forgotten. But no one forgets a thief.
