Some tips and tricks on bringing your hibiscus indoors over the winter

I’ve brought my tropical hibiscus indoors the last 4 years with just what window light I can give it, and water. It does get mad and loose some leaves, when I first bring it in, but then beautiful green leaves grow. No flowers though which I understand during the winter. My problem is that it hardly blooms in the summer when it’s back outdoors. I may get at the most 5 blooms all summer. I’ve researched it, and read something about putting it in s closet and letting it go dormant. I’ve been to afraid to do this. I can’t understand why it won’t bloom. The first summer it bloomed all summer. If you have time and any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I’ve got lots of plants, but my tropical hibiscus is very sentimental to me. It was given to me when my Dad passed away 4 years ago. Thanks.

Zone 9 b here south Louisiana, I've left mine outside had one inside, both looked dead but weren't. First sign of spring I use banana leaves and make a tea ( potassium )They drink it every other day for a week. Sometimes if leaves turn yellow they get a drink of milk.(calcium) If warm weather takes too long, I repot them for the house and get them in the sun on sunny days. The ones outside usually pick up faster than the one inside, so definitely the lighting!

Lol mine died last year. I was like, I'm trying grow lights this year. I have 2 hibiscus 3 dahlias 2 bagonias and 5 calla Lillie's. Last year I did just window light and my dahlias stayed in their pots were green all winter but stretching for light hella leggy, than they got big and beautiful over summer. Callas only need two weeks sleep apparently. Mine came back huge this year. Anyway my suspicions we're obviously correct. So I'm getting grow lights. Thanks for the video.

my 2nd season indoor HB - I use daylight LED shop lights - they love it! Flowers all winter I have about 25+ varieties. Just be vigilant and don't over parent it. Spidermites sux * fungus knats sux. I use mosquito bits and castile soap. and ladybugs and praying mantis *(depends on the infestation). *If you have a awesome winter garden that is pest free limited your friends access to it because they will bring hitch hikers pests. what if mines lost all of the leaves. is it dead? I live in PA and brought it in as soon as it got cold. but ended loosing all of it leaves. should I wait for the warmer weather to bring it back outside?

Thank you so much for this video!! I have looked everywhere for this info to no avail!!! And finally found it here. I live in Michigan, and it is VERY overcast!! Hard to find sunlight in any window. She has yellow leaves and I keep her soil moist. I was scared she was dying.

I do this yearly I always lose like 1 or 2 the rest are fine. Lights work. I can't tell you the amount of mites mysteriously popping up like Nov I bring them in Sept and treat them. Apparently the little bastards can chill dormant in soil waiting for dry conditions.
