This is great and need to explore it more. Just small hint to everyone who want's to integrate it with HA. It is better to write value_template for the sensor this way:
value_template: >-
{% if value_json %}
{{ value_json[0].recipe.name }}
{% else %}
{% endif %}
which will set the sensor value from mealie api or set it empty in case of an error (i.e. missing meal for today), otherwise you may see some errors in HA logs.

I LOVE Mealie! I've been using it for about six months and it's nearly PERFECT! I've been migrating my recipes from Evernote to Mealie for preservation and family sharing. I tag recipes with a unique tag to then group them/separate them into cookbooks.

thank you for the tutorial. Ive been thinking about setting up Mealie since I first saw this 5 months ago. now that Mealie is officially supported, I've finally done it. but also, since Mealie is officially supported, (IMO) the tutorial should be updated or a new one should be made to account for the changes, though I guess that is the way of Home Assistant in the first place.

Hi, I hope you can help me. I use HA 2024.7.4 and mealie v. 1.2 with the mealie integration over the UI. I tried to create the sensor for the generic camera but it will not be created. Does anybody of you have a similar problem? I can't find the entity in the developer tools. I think that is the reason why I can't see an images of the food from meali in HA

I installed Mealie on a spare 64-bit Raspberry Pi 3. Mealie is quite the memory hog and crashed the Pi 3 after adding my first recipe. I'll install it on my old Synology NAS and cross my fingers it doesn't crash that too.

A local recipe database with the capability to import from other websites. Even standalone, this is awesome. For the HA integration, it would be good to also have a sensor for the next day meal. Then, eg. after 7 PM, you could already show the next dinner.
