From sofic groups to MIP*=RE (speaker:Lewis Bowen)

This talk will be a gentle introduction to sofic groups, hyperlinear groups, Connes embedding conjecture, Tsirelson’s problem and its recent (claimed) disproof by Ji-Natarajan-Vidick-Wright-Yuen. The story starts with symbolic dynamics over countable groups, then journeys to von Neumann algebras and ends in quantum information theory. Talk starts at 9:30.
