SMRs and the Future of Nuclear Energy
Показать описание
Nuclear power is the second-largest source of clean energy, producing around 10 percent of the world’s electricity. While many agree that nuclear power is an important component of our clean energy future, safety concerns, public perception, and high costs have stalled its growth in recent years. Advanced small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) offer many advantages compared to traditional nuclear plants, including enhanced safety features, reduced capital investment, faster deployment, and incremental capacity growth. Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is advancing the deployment of SMRs in Ontario, leveraging more than 50 years of nuclear experience to support the development of carbon-free nuclear technology. In this webinar, OPG discussed their work to advance SMRs, the challenges and opportunities of this technology, and their vision for the future of nuclear energy. OPG is a climate change leader and the largest clean electricity generator in the province, providing more than half of the power Ontarians rely on every day.
