✅ Lesson 4. How promotion works in Shogi

✅ Do you want to LEARN to play Japanese Chess/Shogi?
In this video series, I will try to teach how to play shogi covering from the rules to topics such as opening, game strategy, tricks, or endgames.

If you have any questions or want to play me a game, you can always find me at
🟠 My Shogi set on Amazon

Hopefully, we will get Grandmasters like Hikaru Nakamura or Magnus Carlsen to play this game or even make a Pogchamps tournament. The funniest game I have seen in the top anime and best anime, and hope to see it more in the new upcoming anime 2021.

Hey I’m Japanese and I play both chess and shogi and also watched sangatsu no lion (March comes in like a lion). Thank you for introducing shogi. Massive love from Japan ♥️👏

For those wondering, here are the translations of all the kanji into English:

Pawn: foot soldier.
Promoted pawn: reaches (short for the phrase “reaches gold”).
Lance: incense chariot.
Promoted lance: gold.
Knight: cassia horse.
Promoted knight: gold.
Silver general: silver general.
Promoted silver: gold.
Gold general: gold general.
Bishop: angle mover.
Dragon horse: dragon horse.
Rook: flying chariot.
Dragon king: dragon king.
King (with the dot): jewel general.
King (without the dot): king general.

Note: all the kanji on the promoted sides of pieces are in cursive script. All the promoted sides with the kanji for “gold” are in varying degrees of cursive depending on the rank of the unpromoted side so you can tell them apart.
