Sedatephobia

Fear of silence. Or the sound of awkwardness when the vents turn off. [NOTE: Wear headphones]

A short film produced for my Intermediate Filmmaking class. The project's challenge is to make use of sound in any way to tell a story or evoke a feeling.

This is so accurate for me, but a little different. When I'm in complete silence (especially at night), I start to freak out and I have to start singing to keep myself calm and to stop my thoughts from drifting to paranoid and horrific places.
The other night I was so freaked out I couldn't remember the words to the song that usually calms me so I started saying the words I could remember loudly and I started pacing.
So all this woke up my roommate and when they ask me what was wrong I started screaming until I realized who it was...

So accurate. For me I have to constantly tap my feet or click my pencil during a test and everyone hates me for it.

i wouldn't compare it to this exact situation. if i were in a quiet room with other people, then yes it would hit hard.

I can't go to sleep at night without the fan on because otherwise it's just too silent.

I thought I was the only one with this fear.
This is how my sedate phobia treats me.
I have to read if not listening to sound.
Tests are a struggle, I can listen to the vent but not pencil scratching.
If a sub tells us no talking, I have to get enough courage and ask for music. If s/he says no, I tell them that I have sedate phobia. They usually give me a weird look, so I search it up on my chrome book and show them. Then they say I’m lying. Oh they made a mistake. I purposely kick my desk loudly, in a swinging motion. But, after that they say we can listen to music.
If it’s night, I can’t fall asleep unless I listened to radio.
And there is my sedate phobia in a nutshell.

This is the reason I keep a fan on at night, even in winter, and am constantly playing music

This actually triggered me as soon as his air cut off i got nervous and my heart stated beating really hard and then he heard a noise in the back ground i had to look around my own room. I have found that music has become my main source of getting through my phobia, I am always listening to music at all times.

Silence for me stresses me out especially while in a class doing a test i start tapping my shoe and pencil or i purposely drop my pencil so it makes a noise and for night time i cant sleep without a fan

When in silence at night when intense fear of the dark kicks in, if there’s no noise. I can’t make noise to calm myself because to scared to make any.
I can’t cry because that scares me too much
I won’t make noise until it’s morning

whenever im in a room or place where its very quit and there is almost no sound i get a very uneasy feeling but when the lights are off then that uneasy feeling turns into feeling as if something is watching and it is genuinely scary.

I usually hear whispers, random things moving and on some occasions see something like a black figure running past me

Ok mine is really bad in my opinion. I start hearing ringing or people talking. Which of course are my own thoughts but I also start ticking in way. Lien some parts of my body would start moving without my control and I can’t stop. I become really paranoid and if it’s dark it’s worse. I see random things and shapes in the the darkness. Or shakes of people. Not only that my anxiety gets ten times worse. This is why I prefer sleeping with music and hate when my parents take my phone away. And if it gets too bad I just start texting my friends cause at some point if I don’t start listening to music in time the music won’t help

I cant go down stairs at night because its silent because i feel super paranoid and scared so I sing to distract myself. And If i dont have my phone i get my service dog to go with me because she knows guard aka she watches my back. At sleepovers my friends hate me they cant sleep with sound or light I cant sleep without it.
