Why Curiosity2
Self-Reliance + Sustainability = Freedom
Self-Reliance: To rely on our own resources and limit our need for a marina or fuel dock.
Sustainability: Thinking about what we do today and how it will affect next week, next year, the next decade, and so on. It’s the recognition that we’re all part of a living system and that everything we do impacts the world around us.
In other words, we want to be out in the world living and exploring for as long as possible. Both in terms of not having to worry about our resources or our habitat disappearing. It's practical, not political.
And we know we're not the only ones seeking this kind of freedom because we have you! Our community of like-minded people we've been having this exact conversation with for the past decade. It doesn't matter if you are in an RV, Tiny House, Sailboat, Motorboat, Homestead, Farm, Ranch, or Off-Grid Island Resort...at the end of the day, we've all connected over our love for nature and our desire to be in it.
This new HH44 is the continuation of that conversation and desire. This is not the ultimate, all-time perfect eco boat or zero-footprint anything. Not even close. It’s the best option that we could find working with viable, available solutions. It’s the type of innovation we want to support, encourage, and see way more of.
We're super stoked about getting into the world of Performance Cruising and hybrid electric sailing with our new HH44 catamaran. HH catamarans have a reputation for building the best luxury performance sailing catamarans in the world. And now this is a brand-new boat designed from the ground up with solar, hydrogeneration, and electric motoring in mind. Add in our rain capture system and we have the ability to be off the grid and explore incredibly remote and uninhabited areas for months and months at a time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.

We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.

Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.

We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.

Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

Please do not tone down nor edit your excitement, that is alive and beneficial to us all!! I'm so excited for you and living vicariously through you as it isn't in the plan for this life for me so I need YOU to go full on out in your own experience of this!! Thank you so much!

Apologizing, not apologizing for being excited, cracks me up.
I would be so excited I would literally not be able to contain myself. Seriously, congratulations.

As a non sailor who stated watching you two because of wanting to get a RV, then wife and I got hooked on your story telling, good works and enthusiasm for life and adventure. I have to say you make me excited about this boat. Looking forward to seeing its ongoing build, and how all the decisions work out! Much love from us.

Absolutely gel coat guys, easy to repair and included, can't beat that.Ross

Gelcoat is the most universal and also lends itself to quick repairs. Your boat is already going to be extremely exotic I'd suggest trying to make everything else as common as possible to give you the best chance for repairs or help no matter where you're at.

You never have to apologize for your enthusiasm. Your positive attitudes are a big reason to watch!

The only opinion I have is how I love your excitement and that you are freely sharing it with us. ❤❤

Since the gelcoat option is already priced in, I would go with that. You can always paint or vinyl wrap over gelcoat.

Those factory build shots are the sonogram of your baby at its current stage. It's just now forming to look like a boat. Oh and I did see the legs folding in back taking shape too. Once the electronics and the mast is in place, we'll have a clear picture of its eyes and its other limbs. A little longer than 9 months to grow be strong and healthy when it splashes out of the womb.
So happy for you guys 😎

My vote is Gel-coat. It's the cheapest. 2nd choice is paint. Vinyl wrap will look bad after a few years in the sun. What I'm most excited about hearing about is the solar-electric drive system.

I really appreciate the update on the boat. We are almost as excited as you 2 are about getting it.

You have chosen a fantastic option for your second iteration of Curiosity and I would just say that practicality should rule the hull finish decision. I built a 42" trimaran (FRP) as my "grad school" project. It launched in 1976 and is still sailing all these years later and is still owned by my building (not life) partner.

After sailing for 4 years I reverted to a land based life and have no regrets. The discovery of your channel brings back sweet and sour memories. Selling the boat was a "Sliding Doors" moment for me and your adventures are a pleasure to watch. As a couple, you have something very special and thank you so much for sharing your interesting lives. Your journey sets a wonderful example of a life well lived. I have respect and admiration for both of you and look forward to the shared experiences in future chapters.

All the best to you both!

Best Advice is: select the option that has an "upkeep" that is in your "wheelhouse" whether that be paint, gelcoat, or wrap. Also what is best for ocean crossing, what has the best track record that gives you confidence.
I can't say this enough, how happy I am for you both, this is such a big deal to see and the giddiness in your eyes is so heartwarming. One thing for sure, your new baby is a BIG Game Changer! All the best wishes as you make these decisions and remember, this is for you! Name: "GWTW & Sun"

Yes, the vinyl wraps do fade over time, but the nice thing is if they get _too_ faded you can peel them off during a haul-out for whatever reason. And they'll give a small amount of protection to the gelcoat underneath. As others have pointed out, you can make minor repairs to the gelcoat almost anywhere. Between your updates and the Ruby Rose updates on their new SeaWind I'm learning a lot about how a _GOOD_ boat is built!

Thanks for all the eoponeated explanations of the birthing of your new creation on the water as it progresses. Wonderful.

Gelcoat all the way as it's MUCH easier to repair and if you decide later that you wanted a wrap, it would serve as a great base for the wrap, while the reverse isn't the case...

If it works don't fix it ... Gel Coat! .... Your honest excitement is a pleasure to witness, don't change! The 44 is perfect so long as you have enough room for me when I come and visit!! Stay Safe & Fair Winds!!

I understand some of what you're saying, and all of your enthusiasm!
I found myself wondering how much the Jason and Nikki who first boarded Curiosity, before that was even her name, would have understood about today's video, if they could have time-travelled to watch it?!

So glad you are excited. Quite frankly, if you weren't something would be wrong. We are excited for, and perhaps with you, as we apparently are living vicariously through you. We don't envy all the decisions, but in a way that is part of the challenge of any good adventure. Enjoy.
