Tonight we have an absolutely legendary artist, and teacher with us, the founder of Watts Atelier, Jeffrey Watts! It's a huge honor and thrill to have the opportunity to paint alongside a modern master, and mentor to so many working professional artists, and fine artists around the world. We'll be using gouache to paint a famous Conan picture by one of my biggest influences and favorite artists, John Buscema.

48:29 The beautiful game! It feels like you are watching a soccer match. I can see these passes clear as day but when you are on the field it is such a different vantage point that you miss it all together in the heat of the moment. Sometimes you can see this beautiful background element or key highlight that is coming along nicely but then it just gets painted over because being so close to the canvas it doesn’t register.

I have nothing but respect for Jeffrey Watts. But, Dave, you knocked it out of the ball park. Your's was vibrant and lively, not muddy and gray looking. Your warm and cool colors on Conan's body looked very painterly. I think gouache is definitely a medium that would compliment your style. Freakin' bravo !!! I will definitely be checking out Mr. Watts Atelier.

In the course of my late career as a carny artist, we called this the "50000 screaming Zulu warriors in full battle drag"problem. How do you paint 50k Zulus...?" Answer you don't. You paint 1 Zulu, 2 partial Zulus, a big cloud of dust, various arms, legs and weapons.Presto, as many Zulu warriors as you need. Even silhouettes.

This stream was and is one of the most inspiring clases ever. Everything he mention or talk about. It’s a treasure for everyone of us. Fantastic. Thanks for this gift of knowledge

This was good I loved seeing Jeff work on a piece originally done by my all-time favorite comic artist Big John Buscema, this was truly educational and inspiring.

I made the suggestion to invite Jeff on ages (years?) ago, great it actually happened. I knew it would be a perfect fit.

On the note of learning through others, I pretty much taught myself how to do digital color off of your's (Mr. Finch) and people like Jim Lee's Inkings, and looking at all of my favorite covers and panels entirely too close and trying to figure out how they did what they did to get the render to the level they did XD. Honestly between that and some color theory and line theory from other comic artists from every facet of the industry (Illustrators, Colorists, etc.) Ive grown faster than I ever did in a classroom....

Edit for context: Taught myself digital art, because I came from practical art, and honestly thought digital was so much harder than I thought It would be going into it. standing on the shoulders of giants like you and others showed me things from a perspective I doubt I would have found on my own.

It took me years to figure out the value of those old Paint by Numbers painting sets that I used to get....After attending Art College and Watching Jeffrey Paint I can see echos of what they were teaching.
