Chronic musculoskeletal pain is among the most prevalent diseases worldwide, affecting ∼ 20.5 to 21.8% of U.S. adults 1 and costing as much as $635 billion in the United States alone. 2 It is now the number-one reason for lost days at work. (Biswal 2023)

Myofascial pain syndrome is the most common chronic pain condition. Myofascial pain syndrome is characterized by the myofascial trigger point. The myofascial trigger point is a discrete palpable hyper irritable nodule in a taut band of skeletal muscle. It is a constant source of nociceptive input. It leads to both peripheral and central sensitization. Alloydnia and hyperalgesia.

It is fairly treated well with dry needling, electro modalities, muscle retraining and massage et al.

Palpation is the only diagnostic tool to date.
