Doctor explains why you don’t need to wear gloves

In this video I explain why you don’t need to wear gloves for routine tasks such as grocery shopping. The WHO do not recommend the routine use of gloves as a preventative measure for coronavirus disease spread at this point.

The main stays remain hand hygiene, social distancing and isolating if sick. Gloves have an important role to play in the healthcare setting but there is no evidence for their use by members of the public.

Remember - wash your hands, be sensible and stay safe.

Don’t let me get started on gloves…the number of people who put on gloves then cross contaminating everything. Then dump them out of the car window 😤
I see a lot of people on YouTube saying people cooking should wear gloves, I’m sure they think the average glove in a box is sterile, they aren’t. The only time I use them in cooking is decorating cakes when my nails will go through the fondant. I wash them before I touch it. Then they go in the bin. I used to teach and we had to continually do paediatric first aid courses, we were taught the globe taking off bit. I didn’t always use them when I was doing first aid, others would do it to put a wet compress on an insect bite 🙄

I wish I knew this at the start of the pandemic. I do, however, always keep sanitizing gel in the car for when I exit a store.

So I guess everyone washes their hands immediately after touching something before they touch something else? Every place we go has handwashing stations conveniently placed for use, or does everyone wear motion sensor hand sanitizer dispensers around their neck? Almost every argument you made to not wear gloves applies to your bare hands as well. Yes the virus doesnt enter through your hands, but you still transfer it to whatever you touch.

Hello Dr.. I had my second dose of Astrazenca 6 months ago.. But still I have the pain around the area where I had my shot.. GP prescribed pain killer some relief but still I feel like muscle cramps when I force my arm.. Now Im not able to sleep well.. No idea what to do about it

WEAR GLOVES, but change them frequently.
Dr Karan, not wearing gloves when travelling by train or bus or using a fuel pump at a gas station is stupid, and just as dangerous as you not wearing gloves at work. As for the WHO, they haven't always been the sharpest tool in the box during this pandemic, in my opinion!

Rather than telling us not to wear gloves, you need to tell us to wear gloves, but change them frequently, on entering and leaving a supermarket, or when buying fuel, etc.; and how to remove them properly. That's what I did learn from you Doc. Thank you.

And WEAR A MASK when you go outdoors!!! Certainly where I live in Melbourne, Australia or cop a $200 fine.

I remember my Auntie visting my Uncle on a NHS ward around 13 years ago. He had a minor procedure in Hospital and contracted the flesh eating disease. She noticed my uncles wound dressing had fallen away so she called the Dr over from the counter. He was reading a Newspaper. The Dr inspected the wound with out Surgical gloves or washing his hands he adjusted the dressing then went back to read his newspaper again no hands washed and no gloves. My auntie asked him why no hand washing or gloves, the Dr failed to reply ! The moral of the story is the general public have common sense, we know how to use gloves even if some Drs dont. I dont doubt this Dr has a point but we realise gloves are helpfull as are masks and that we know to take them off after leaving busy places and what hand sanistiser is. The Hot Tap and soap cant be carried about not to mention the dirty public loo handles that everyone uses.

WTF!!! No one touch their face when they wear gloves...its an instinct not to do that naturally. Stop making these videos. Period.
