If something like this were done at large scale, the people whose taxes support it would be bitterly resentful, and hard to blame them.

Wouldn’t providing government handouts at scale cause more inflation, thereby negating the handouts?

If you want a real examination of UBI, look at per diem and Indian reservations?

Oh wait, that's a horrible disaster and many Natives live in poverty.

What about AA communities and welfare? Oh wait, that went horribly too.

Basically, at small scale, UBI gives you breathing room to find a better job and hold out for what you want...provided that job is available. That's about it.

At large scale, it's awful. The benefits do not outweigh the consequences.

UBI as a tool is a screwdriver with no head and no modular insert. It's a thick punch and while that may serve one tiny narrow purpose, it's basically useless.

Instead of preparing people for the workforce and teaching real rconomics and free market principles, we sell our youth pie in the sky fantasies that don't jive with reality.

Someone still has to make things of value, to create prosperity. That doesn't change in a UBI based system. We're trying to apply Star Trek rules to real life and it just doesn't work.
