Loon Outdoors: Ergo Dialed-In Bobbin

preview_player
Показать описание
The iconic Ergo Bobbin series gets an upgrade to allow tyers to perfectly dial in their tension, just like the drag on a fly reel. The powder coated ergonomic handle rests comfortably in tyers hands, while the dual-radiused tube allows thread to travel smoothly from spool to fly.

Good luck. I’ve tried multiple washer locations and nothing improves the smoothness. It’s a good idea but not thoroughly tested.

Hi! I recently purchased one of these. Now I'm new to fly tying so this is why I'm asking. How do you dial in this bobbin to the right level of.thread release and keep it there? Also how should I hold it so I don't accidently change the tension while tying? Also where exactly do you place the plastic washers? Thank you for answering!

Interesting - this solution worked for one of the 2 bobbins I have but the metal tension adjustment screw turns with the thread spool on the 2nd one. No matter how little adjustment is being applied.

Crazy

This thing has totally shaken my trust in Loon products. They sent me one of their "remedy kits". As far as i can tell it is just the exact same thing i already had that doesnt work. There are no instructions about how to use it. Why are there 17 plastic washers? What am i trying to achieve with them? I get the sense that even if it "worked" the way they intend, it would still be a huge inconvenience compared to a normal bobbin holder. I dont want to fiddle around with 20 washers whenever i want to put on a new spool. What are they thinking?

HOW TO FIX YOUR DIALED IN BOBBIN - Remove all plastic clutch discs from the bobbin. Use one as a template. Take a piece of 2mm craft sheet foam. Anyone who ties foam flies already has this material on hand. Use a hole punch and punch a hole far enough from an edge for a foam clutch disc. Use a ball point pen to trace the outside of the plastic disc onto the foam. Use scissors to cut the outside of the foam sheet. Rebuild your bobbin in this order - foam disc, 2 plastic discs, thread spool, 2 plastic discs, foam disc, metal spool locker, thread tension adjuster. Why some sort of soft felt or foam or silicone washers weren't also in the original packaging is beyond me. This fix takes a couple minutes and costs virtually nothing but it's still annoying to have to fix a brand new product.

i just bought the bobbin and it is extremely difficult to maintain the tension and it sticks a lot or is very loose, this is the first loon product i have been disappointed with.😢

Also struggling to get this to work correctly. Loon needs to make this right.

Have tried multiple spools and with even the slightest tension it stutters when the spool turns. Loon supplied extra washers but that had no improved affect. Not sure what to do next. Please help as the bobbin is very comfortable in hand

I just received mine 3 days ago. I contacted loon because there is a ratcheting like feed to the spool. I tried several threads from different brands and different polymer washer locations no luck. Its so bad i put it back in the bag and in the drawr. Awaiting response from loon. I have lots of loon products so i am a big fan of the company but this product has issues.

Has anyone been able to adjust to a workable tension and have a smooth operating spool?
