Definitely looks like a great product for Weber Kettle. I think I would drill a new hole on the vent side for the S1 to avoid having it over the coals. Nothing to do with the product, just thinking more effective for getting proper grate level temp where food is. Or better yet, put two, one where original gauge was, the other in a new vent side location.

Does it bother the lid when you open it on the wire holder

You might consider de-burring that hole and then spray some black high temp paint on the bare metal to retard corrosion.
