The *REAL* problem is not that people can't be "kind" to one another, but that people cannot stop conflating holding people accountable for their actions and refusing to associate with them because of what they have done, and having a difference of opinion.

I remember Megan McCain‘s father John McCain being on Ellen’s talk show back when he was running for president and told Ellen right to her face that he could not and would not support gay marriage. Ellen thanked him for being on her show and the interview pretty much concluded several minutes later with no big fanfare.
