Redesign isn't the main problem with the Air Force NGAD. The main problem is budget. The Air Force is replacing all Minuteman III missiles with the LGM-35 Sentinal and obtaining a fleet of 100 to 200 B-21 Raiders. It's a matter of priorities. The Air Force already has a great 5th Gen air dominance fighter in the F-35 Block 4 and though the NGAD would be nice, there are other priorities. BTW, all the speculation about range, ceiling, speed is futile. Those will classified long after the fighter is in the fleet.

I think it’s fun to see some of this semi conventional aircraft designs because I grew up watching an learning about all of them. The capabilities and technology that can share is super impressive. I still think all of this is like earlier unveiled skunk works and stealth projects. This is a veil we spend a lot of money on, so we don’t reveal the more exotic stuff that people don’t think is possible. It’s been around for a while.

Aircraft carriers already rely heavely on mid-air refueling so that should at least help with the range problem.

I have always thought that the leading edges of the wings should be able to redirect the atrflow as well as the rear Ailerons. That way smaller inputs would effect the directional changes.
But as long as it has a cup holder!

the FA-XX seems like a navy version of the NGAD. since the NGAD also has data sharing, drones and next generation avionics and stealth tech. it's also able to reach speeds that have never been reached before in any air force jet that isn't of the SR line
