There's something wrong here I'm 65 and love his music . I grew up listening to legends . This is one in the making . Well done Sam you have fans at my age too.

Oh jesus fucking christ. As someone who battles depression every single day... this is unbelievable. It's so moving, and lyrical, and gorgeous, and sad, and hopeful. Sam Fender is a megastar in waiting

His ability to take and incredibly difficult subject and turn it into an uplifting song is amazing.
Your heart breaks but you end up euphoric.
This boy needs to be celebrated and cherished.

This song is an absolute masterpiece, the meaning behind it is so strong and hopeful. The first time I played it, I honestly was completely stopped in my tracks and it took my breath away. Ive never experienced that with a song before. I know im going to bawl if I hear it live! Sam is a genius.

Seeing the Tyne bridge at the end, and as a local, knowing just how many souls jump each week from it, just makes this song hit even harder

Seeing this live at Finsbury Park last night with the fellers all tearing up was the absolute pinnacle man. Masterpiece.

But I'm damned if I give up tonight
I must repel the dying light
For Mam and Dad and all my pals
For all the ones who didn't make the night

Goddamn Sam 😭

When faced with a choice between leaving and staying, I’m so grateful I found you to encourage me to stay.
I’ll forever be grateful, I adore you.

When a song hits you so hard the hairs on your body stand up a shiver runs down your spine as someone dances on your grave you know the artist is beyond anything you have ever seen or heard. This one hits hard losing two siblings by their own hands because of a constant grey cloud it hurts it hurts because all they had to do was hold out there hands and we would have snatched them up and pulled them away from their dying light. I uprooted 27 years ago from Teesside a cold damp run down part of the country misery on every corner but with a heart as big as the moon to find work and I made it 270 miles away mom and pops brother sister all gone now 3 of us left scattered like leaves and we don't speak.
Someone asked me would you go back and change your life and I can't answer if I hadn't moved I wouldn't have met the love of my life or had my fabulous kids. However my roots are still there but my heart is here. I LOVE SAM he can reach me in places that no one else has in feelings that I thought were gone.

“For all the ones who didn’t make the night” is so hauntingly beautiful especially during a pandemic.

Great song! The second half and climax sound like the E-Street Band in all its glory.

'And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.'

(last stanza of Dylan Thomas's 'Do not go gentle into that good night')

Thanks for recontextualising this poem into a beautiful piece of music Sam. You really are a legend.

It hits home a lot this song, especially seeing the Tyne bridge bit at the end. Been there, felt it, thoughts go out to the families of those who didn't back away.
