how can you find the coordinate of the trace path of the system?

Awesome but a quick question, I see how the pantograph was made to follow the smaller heart but it appears that a virtual 'pen' was applied to the output. My question is: if the pantograph wasn't following the smaller heart then would it 'write' wherever it was pushed?
