031 - Magnetic Force

In this video Paul Andersen explains how a charge particle will experience a magnetic force when it is moving through a magnetic field. The right-hand rule is described as a method for determining the direction of the force. The magnitude of the force is a product of the charge, velocity and magnitude of the magnetic field.

**Applause** You managed to teach this concept better than anyone in the physics dept at my university. Bravo!

somehow in eight minutes i learned something my teacher has failed to teach for a week straight

Looks like I'm throwing up gang signs when I'm studying

This is the most efficient way to explain the right-hand rule, great job!

You taught me AP bio in my sophomore year of high school. Now I'm back 7 years later, and you're teaching me physics for the MCAT. Thank you, Mr. Anderson! c:

I've been aware of this concept for over 20 years, but never understood it better than I do now after watching this. Thank you, sir! Perfect presentation style, and elegantly succinct.

Thank you for this ! I'm reviewing Physics for the MCAT and have never truly understood magnetism because it was poorly taught in my school. Your videos are very clear, with clean animations that help us follow along with what you are saying. Keep it up!

Why you seem to be expert in all all the academic subjects? Such a genius....

I absolutely love physics - but it honestly gives me such a headache...irritating. lol

You are my hero! I can always count on Mr. Andersen to explain what others can't. Thank you.

that awkward moment when you're trying to do the right hand rule but remember that you're an amputee

I love how concise this video is. I'm just reviewing for My MCAT. Thanks!

Much appreciated. Online courses don't pair well with explaining a physical concept like this, so I'm glad your video helped me fill in the logic gaps I was having. Thanks!

Thank you! My physics professor doesn't know how to teach and this right hand rule explanation actually makes sense

Bruh I learned the right hand rule in about 4 minutes vs my teacher today who spent about 2 hours (double period) basically teaching us gang signs instead of teaching.

If you’re reading the comment section for that ambiguous part of the video in 4:21

Then go back for the arrow symbol explained where the encircled point indicates the magnetic field going towards you whilst the encircled cross sign indicates that it goes away from you (see 1:00)

Note: Middle Finger Indicates Magnetic Field or B

You see the magnetic field direction (encircled points) changes after the first moving charge example (the one that is inclined to the left) into encircled cross (means magnetic field goes away from you) which was the next example that twisted yo mind.

He even said “Now we have a different magnetic field” in 4:11

Then go apply Fleming’s right hand rule and it will now make sense

Thank you so much for this Mr. Andersen BTW

I was 9 years old when you posted this video. Now I am 18 and learning from it. Thanks for that.
