Aimed at both improving pace of play and preventing opponent sign-stealing, PitchCom eliminates the need for a catcher’s traditional finger signals. Rather, the catcher wears a forearm sleeve -- resembling a remote control -- with nine buttons for calling the pitch and location.

Will or can the pitcher communicate the pitches?

Maybe cut the TV commercial time by 25% if they're wanting to speed things up. It'd be an instant improvement but corporate baseball doesn't work that way

The Astros are already developing a signal interceptor for the hitters' helmets

I'm normally a traditionalist, but I like this. My only concern is if the crowd will be too loud in the playoffs to hear it. Also I would hate to see technical difficulties or low batteries interfere with a game. It won't be 100% perfect, but it's better than the old hand signal system. Also they can always fall back to hand signs if something goes wrong

Thanks for explaining this. I’ve been trying to figure it out by just watching the games but the system is obviously designed to be discreet.

Are we just going to pretend that teams don't have millions of dollars to spend to hire people to crack the signal?

I just heard an interview with Padres Darvish who said that it was many times difficult to hear because of the loud noise at the ground. So after missing the comments, they actually had to go back to hand signal to communicate again…Darvish said its a good concept but the problem is you cant always hear…

The most telling part of this video is when Harold Reynold says "back in the day when they had hit and runs or bunts and stuff like that." You mean, back when there was actual strategy involved in the game?

How difficult would it be for Houston to tap into those frequencies??

They still need to get the hitter to quit wandering around and stay in the box.

They could do a hybrid system with runner on 2nd. Have the tech say the real pitch then sign a different pitch. That could mess with the batter/ runner communication.

It either works on Bluetooth technology or radio frequencies. Either way the signal can be intersepted or jammed.

Trash…..stealing signs is a part of the game! Pitch timer is all they need.
